More or less a lifetime contract in Cedar Falls.

How long is he signed to? Is there a buyout if they did want to get rid of him?

There is a buyout. Three years pay. Steep, but not crazy.

He's always got a 10 year deal, so right now he's signed until 2024, as of July 1 it becomes 2025, and so on...

I don't see any way that Jake gets fired here, unless he goes full Lowery, which won't happen with the type of kids he recruits. That's not to say that everything is perfect. Next year is a HUGE year for the program...

Muller was hired at $375,000, but I thought his salary increases each year. I'm not sure about the increases, though.

For some reason I thought Muller made about $500k. I am surprised it is that low.

Isn't Lusk also right around $350k?

I just think there are some, not me necessarily, that feel we should be a lot better in Tuttle and Mitchell's junior year. A lot of people expected us to be part of the group that separated from the pack and make a run at at least an NIT bid. This year has been pretty disappointing and the crowds are starting to show it...

People don't realize that we're never going to do better than Ben Jacobson in Cedar Falls. If you don't like Jake, just wait until we fire him and pay the next guy bottom of the Valley money with no experience. It'll be like Sam Weaver all over again...

I agree, just seems like Jacobson recruits over the last couple of years have dropped in terms of talent. Is he trying to recruit at a higher level and missing out on those guys and has to settle with who he gets?

His strategy is pretty simple, offer top talent early and hope they either jump at your early offer or that your relationship will convince them to come. If you look at the Top 150, nearly all Midwestern kids had their first offer from UNI.

If you don't get those kids, you go after kids that fit your system or can develop after 2 or 3 years. Two problems with that are that 1) He has no idea what his system is right now and 2) You ignore the middle tier of players.

All in all, our talent level is as high as its ever been, but we need to get back to grinding and playing UNI Basketball. We're never going to have the offensive talent to outscore teams and play games in the 80s and 90s. This is at the heart of why we can't win on the road...

What I can put together:

Evansville -- Simmons -- $180,000 (http://www.courierpress.com/news/2012/n ... asketball/)
Bradley -- Geno Ford -- $700,000 (When hired: http://www.blogs.dixcdn.com/kentstatesp ... t-bradley/)
Northern Iowa -- Ben Jacobson -- $550,000 (mentioned here)
Missouri State -- Paul Lusk -- $400,000 (When hired: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball ... cn-8260957)
Indiana State -- Greg Lansing -- $219,000 (http://www.tribstar.com/sports/x1378303 ... r-contract)
SIU -- Barry Hinson -- $200,000 (mentioned here)
Illinois State -- Dan Muller -- $375,000 (mentioned here)
Loyola -- Porter Moser -- No idea

So putting all of that together ... the eight coaches in the Valley outside of WSU that we have some salary information on combine to make around $2,624,000 a year.

Gregg Marshall makes just shy of $1.9 million prior to incentives, I think. With the incentives he gets this year, and with the salaries of the other WSU assistant coaches, I wonder how close the combined salary of WSU's coaching staff this year is to the other nine head coaches combined?

If I remember right, I just heard Seth Greenberg on the ESPNU college basketball podcast talking about a recruiting strategy he had as a coach, where he intentionally recruited many guys he knew he wouldn't be able to land in order to have an in with them in case they were seeking to transfer from the program they actually went to later on.

That might actually be a good strategy for more teams in the Valley. I also think more teams need to heavily hit the JUCO circuit if they can get away with it academically.

Seems like that is what Marshall does as well as there are way more offers than scholarships available. Per the recruiting sites we still have offers out there for next year without a scholarship available.
