It's not that difficult to see that you're either the guy (Colt or DJ) that gets to the shoot the ball, or you're one of the filler positions on the court. Who would want to play in a system like that? At WSU, every player on the court knows that they have the green light and the plays are designed so that the points can come from any one of the 5 guys (interchangeable). I think Simmon's has a nice post player in Mock, but he's going to have to change his entire mindset if he really wanst to elevate the program.

Probably you are very right. Can you teach an old dog new tricks? Well, you better be able to, if the old dog wants to be around to see his son graduate. Can't believe that even the Aces would stand for three more years of losing.

The Big guy impressed me and Simmons did as well.

It was steal city for WSU, I wonder how many points off steals alone?

I don't agree that it worked for 36 minutes. What got the Aces back into the game in the 2nd half was the 10-point streak by Mock. Although I wouldn't expect the final margin to be much different, I don't believe they would have gotten it closer than nine without the decidedly un-Evansville-like stretch.

Didn't UE lose one of their better post players early in the season mostly because he was only being used as a screener?

WSU immediately turned it over on the next possession, so UE got a second chance and was not able to convert.

He left or was dismissed because he was told to work on his outside shot in the off-season and chose not to. I believe Marty wants to install a stretch 4 in his system, but has not found a proper suited recruit. Therefore, his son plays all the minutes at the 3/4 since he is 6-5 or so and can shoot.

IMO, Marty would prefer to spread the scoring around a bit, but he has limited talent. Gibson is a good young PG, but he can't score beyond 12 foot. No set plays for the little guy. Balentine is a dynamic scorer and gets all the touches he can handle. Wing has lost his confidence and can't score right now. Blake would be a nice reserve, but has been propelled into the starting line-up. Mock is still a half step slow and gets into foul trouble. I expect he'll clean that up next year. There is no scoring depth on this team. Marty needs to upgrade his talent at the SF/PF positions in a bad way and add a serviceable back-up post. Wing and Blake would be excellent reserve players. If he can do that, UE will be competitive. Two years to get it done or he will have wasted Balentine and Mock's talent.

It's not like there hasn't been other players at UE the last 7 years to develop a multiple scorer system though...that's why I believe it will never change as long as Marty is there

How is Simmons going to get (or keep) a legitimate 3/4 player when they figure out that all they do is set screens for a SG. That's not exactly an attractive college basketball career.

Kenneth Harris and Haarasma were pretty good a few years back. Marty needs a 6-7 rebounder with some shooting touch that can average 10 a game.

Misslav Brzoja G 6-4 205 So. may take the emphasis off of Balentine. Transfer in from Nova and is waiting for his year to passes. Sawvell is the missing key that didn't play defense like Wing and got to sit too much for his ego. He went to Europe with family instead of the weight room as asked of the Coaches. In his young 20's headstrong he'll play for Wofford next year.

It was a great game and I believe the Shockers were glad to escape from Evansville with the win.

According to MVC Chris they may meet early in St Louis Hope So!! the Aces tend to play better on the road then at home. Go Figure
