SHOX at Braves

Postby squirrel » February 24th, 2014, 1:53 pm

TV: Tuesday, 8 Central on ESPN 2.

Game notes: http://www.bradleybraves.com/ViewArticl ... =209416283

The Shockers will become the highest-ranked team to ever play at Carver Arena, but again, Bradley has enjoyed its share of home success against teams ranked either No. 1 or No. 2 ... Bradley is 4-3 all-time in home games against teams ranked either first or second in the national polls ... Bradley’s most-recent home game against a top 2 team was a 55-47 win against #2 Wichita State Jan. 9, 1982 at Robertson Fieldhouse.

1/16/1960 *#1 Cincinnati W 91-90
1/10/1962 *#2 Cincinnati W 70-68
1/17/1963 *#1 Cincinnati L 46-52
1/4/1965 *#2 Wichita State L 79-85
1/25/1975 *#2 Louisville W 65-59
2/10/1979 *#2 Indiana State L 72-91
1/9/1982 *#2 Wichita State W 55-47

Additionally, BU is 9-6 all-time at home against teams that participated in the previous year's Final Four. The Shockers are the first team to visit Carver Arena that meets that qualification.

Walt Lemon is currently 10th on the all-time BU scoring list and has 1659 career points, 24 shy of 9th all-time AP's 1683 and 30 shy of 8th all-time Phil Gilbert's 1689.

Those Bradley teams were good and some were ranked highly themselves. The 1960 team finished #4 and the 1982 team won the NIT. This team, well, maybe we'll crack the top 200 RPI if we win tomorrow.

A Braves fan can dream, but I don't expect a W. If we can keep it within 10 I'd be pleasantly surprised. WSU is just a great team, and i tip my hat to the program they have down there.

Hopefully, Walt used up his week's worth of bad shots in the game against Loyola.

Bradley has too many flaws to even think about an upset.

1982---Braves had a good team but the Shockers were coming in with a major headache. They played that entire game looking horribly distracted. It is believed the team found out just before the game about the sanctions that were coming down by the NCAA--sanctions that took them out of post-season play for a few years. The news hit the press just a couple of days later.

VanVleet's family will be in the Arena.

You don't want that.

WSU will win, though Bradly has the type of guards that can be disruptive in the Half Court set when running down hill. They just turn the ball over too much in the full court.

bu has no post play, no d, no o and I doubt Lemon can carry them against the Shockers all by himself. The opening line is WSU-12. I find that very low. WSU has a chance to showcase their talents on ESPN and bu has a chance to showcase their mascot. Globetrotters v Washington Generals. WSU by 18 if they sit their stars halfway thru second half.

I don't think Bradley will win this game, but I'm hoping they keep it competitive. WSU struggled here last year, although they had injuries at the time. Bradley had a shot in the air last year that would have given then the lead with 1 minute left before losing by 6. Hopefully Walt and Pickett are able to control their emotions on senior night and play well.

Go Braves!

Got my tickets for the game at lunch today. I think it's going to be close to a sellout tonight as the ticket people didn't think there were many tickets left to sell. If the walk up crowd is as good as Saturday night, then it could be a sellout.
