Ive never seen a team who is in 8th place have fans that are so convinced that they can beat any basketball team. Its becoming a joke every time it gets close to game time i read about how the surge starts today or how the winning streak starts today. Its not gonna start, accept the mediocre season it will make it go down easier.

Don't forget Steve Merfeld either, who left his assistant's job under Les mid-season.

Please enlighten us with the name of any other D1 school that uses "Redbirds" as their nickname.

I believe it was Cardinal/Redbird. A Redbird is a Cardinal, and there are 6 schools that have the nickname Cardinal(s)/Redbird making it tied for the 8th most common mascot. Bears is tied for 4th with 9 schools, and Bulldogs is #1 with 15 schools.

You are entitled to believe what you wish but the fact remains that we are called the Redbirds and not the Cardinals. Nowhere will you find any reference to the nickname Cardinals. It's Redbird Arena, the mascot is Reggie Redbird, and all the sports teams are called the Redbirds and there is no other college that uses the nickname, Redbirds. You must have spent a fair amount of time not proving your point. Good job.

And good luck tomorrow against the braves...although you guys won't be needing it. Shockers by 18+.

Seriously? I didn't even make the statement originally. I don't "believe" anything specifically about your mascot. I was just pointing out what you either over looked or ignored. Its fine though. Illinois State is as original as the Stanford Cardinal. No s makes it unique.

A redbird is not an animal. It's a colloquial name for a Northern Cardinal. Using the term "redbird" doesn't make your mascot any less generic.

I'm not sure what you're trying to prove here, or who you think you're convincing, other than arguing semantics that I already included in the fact that I said "Cardinals/Redbirds" in the first place. I included the two terms together because they are, genetically, the exact same animal.

You must have spent no amount of time actually reading the user name of the person you were responding to. Good job.

"We're not the Missouri State Bears, we're the, umm, Missouri State Brown Bears? That's original. Let's go with that."

Olbermann said it a few times tonight on the 2. I wouldn't say it was complimentary though.
