This I'll give you for sure. Knight hasn't been the most efficient shooter and Wes has distributed better.

I think you and I could go round and round and since we both believe in "our" guy, we could use stats to prove either of our points. They're both quality and I'll admit, having only seen Wes twice, I don't have a huge sample size to really give a high end assessment of him. It would be interesting to see how voting would shake up if it was between these two.

However, as I said, if Doyle is eligible for this, I think he gets it easy.

Maybe it's because I'm younger and closer to the "Participation Trophy" generation but if Doyle is Freshman of the Year (not sure how you could give it to anyone else, even Lynch) then I think the voters need to introduce some diversity and consider other players for NOY. Involve more guys and give out additional recognition when possible. The only exception I really have for this is if someone is also a legitimate threat for the top award (player of the year, MVP, whatever a league or sport chooses to call it). By definition of "newcomer" I think Doyle would be eligible but with these 2nd tier awards I'd just prefer to see more guys taken into account and given the opportunity to be recognized.
[Insert snappy comeback]

I have posted my individual award honorees. The toughest was selecting the NOY - lots of good points made here. I could have made a case for Doyle, but ultimately felt like someone else should (and will) win the award.

Everybody has made good cases for all the awards. 6th man of the year is gonna be close I think between K. Smith and Nate Buss. I can see either of them winning it. K. Smith edge is he is a better defender and that the Sycamores are #2. Nate Buss has better numbers not by much. He also might just be a better shooter. They actually play each other for the final game of the season. Maybe whichever teams wins will determine this award. lol Also dont forget Arop has a case to make the 2nd team.

The per 40 min and eff. numbers between Knight and Washpun are interesting...

Stat...........Knight.........Washpun.........Washpun +/- (because I'm a UNI guy)
FG Made Per 40.........6.........4.........-2
FG Att Per 40.........16.........8.........-8
FG % Per 40.........37.........50.........+13 % points
3pt FG Per 40.........2.........1.........-1
3pt FG Att Per 40.........7.........1.........-6
FT Made Per 40.........5.........4.........-1
FT Att Per 40.........6.........5.........-1
Points Per 40.........19.........11.........-8

From that I gather that if Washpun took Knights 40 min stats for shots taken he'd have 8 more FG makes...likely putting him at 25ish PPG at this efficiency calling it 8 total FG makes and roughly 4 3pt makes out of that. 12 points off of 3s, 8 more from 2 pointers, FG rate probably goes up some as well but well leave it at the 4 makes per 40. Let's see 12+8+4....24 points per 40? Right? Anyone care to disprove my math on that one?

Rebounds Per 40.........7.........5.........-2
Off Rebs Per 40.........1.........1.........0
Def Rebs Per 40 .........6.........6.........0
Assists Per 40.........3.........5.........+2
Steals Per 40.........2.........1.........-1
Turnovers Per 40.........3.........3.........0
Blocks Per 40.........0.........1.........1
Fouls Per 40.........2.........3.........+1

They are pretty even statically everywhere except points - which is a pretty damn flawed number because these two aren't the same focus for their team.

Let's look at conference games only - since Wes is at a serious disadvantage with the level of competition he faced OOC

6 16 2 6 5 6 18 7 1 6 3 2 4 0 2

Stat...........Knight.........Washpun
FG Made Per 40.........6.........4
FG Att Per 40.........16.........7
FG % Per 40.........37.........57
3pt FG Per 40.........2.........1
3pt FG Att Per 40.........6.........2
FT Made Per 40.........5.........4
FT Att Per 40.........6.........6
Points Per 40.........18.........13
Rebounds Per 40.........7.........4
Off Rebs Per 40.........1.........0
Def Rebs Per 40 .........6.........4
Assists Per 40.........3.........6
Steals Per 40.........2.........1
Turnovers Per 40.........4.........3
Blocks Per 40.........0.........1
Fouls Per 40.........2.........3

Interesting to look at the total +/- of each player as well

In conference games only

Wes Washpun
Plus Minus 96
+/- Avg 6.4

Knight
Plus Minus -6
+/- Avg 0

In all games

Washpun
Plus Minus 90
+/- Avg 3.5

Knight
Plus Minus -48
+/- Avg -2

*total stats* may favor Knight.....however, once you look past "total" you'll get a very different look

From the MVCFans WP selection on Defensive Player of the year:

wp/2014/02/28/mvcfans-com-2014-missouri-valley-conference-awards-and-honors-part-1/

"I expect the voting on this award will be unanimous. On a Wichita State team comprised of several players capable of making All-MVC, Cotton sticks out as the heart and soul of the Shockers’ league leading defense. We recognize him today as the Defensive Player of the Year. Congratulations Tekele Cotton."

From the official go shockers.com bio for Tekele Cotton:

http://www.goshockers.com/ViewArticle.d ... EASON=2013

"2012-13 (Sophomore): Averaged 7.8 points while shooting 46 percent (14-30), and had 1.8 steals in five NCAA tourney games ... Helped hold Pitt’s Tray Woodall to two points while scoring six points himself in the NCAA Tournament opener … Was not named to the Valley’s all-defensive team …"

Im confused how Washpun wins when he wasn't the star of UNI. If it wasn't for Knight no way ISU would be playing friday

You're greatly confusing importance/how heavily someone is relied on to the overall quality of that person's play.

Yes but Knight is way more important to ISU then Washpun.

They should just give Doyle both. Can't see Washpun getting it but what do I know. 1st team is the one I'm interested in seeing, something tells me Ron Baker fans are gonna be upset when it's announced.

That has nothing to do with it
