Arch Madness - FRIDAY GAME THREAD

Action tips off at 12 pm cst with #1 Wichita State vs #9 Evansville. I found this stat to be pretty interesting, since the MVC switched to 10 teams in 1997, teams that won on Thursday are 1-32 on Friday.

Not that really hard to believe since the Thursday winners are facing the two best teams in the conference on Friday, not to mention that they are playing on less than 24 hours rest.

While the record isn't that good, ususally the 1 vs. 8/9 game isn't too bad especially in the 1st half, mainly do to the Thursday night team having a little rhythm from the night before, but legs usually win out in the end.

Bradley in 1997-98 is the only play-in team to reach the semifinals.

They managed a 3-game sweep of 2-seed Creighton that season, with the quarterfinal win, which was effectively the Jays breakout year under Dana Altman. The first game that year was in Omaha and Rodney Buford went down with a first half injury and DNP the rest of the game.

Bradley also led SW Missouri State (as it was known at the time) at half, before their legs gave out in the 2nd.

This quote right here is exactly why I love Barry Hinson:

"I learned a long time ago, you win one game. You're looking at a team that has led for, literally, 79 minutes and 54 seconds in 80 minutes of play. They have completely dominated us in every aspect. This is a huge task for us, we'll have to play extremely well. The thing we ask our guys to do at any time is play your tail off."

I think this is a dangerous game. He will remind them of how we pummeled them in the McLeod a couple of weeks ago.

Go Panthers!

Sycamores should pull out a closely contested game vs. Loyola tonight, we'll play to the level of Loyola, let them hang around, then with about 4 minutes to go ISU players will decide they'd better get serious and play a little harder and win by 3.

No. The Sycamores are not as good as you give them credit. Loyola is better than you think. The play will be more evenly matched due to both teams competing well. The better team, ISU, will probably win due to their talent, experience, and depth. Players do not turn it on during the last 3 minutes.
