It's a report after being imbedded with WSU for four days, so it's obviously from the Wichita State perspective, but interesting takes on things relevant to the MVC. The scouting of WSU coaches on the opponents, Marshall's motivation of Early based on his play against Gulley, etc.

There was an interesting scout on Balentine. I'm not sure if his 31 points invalidate that scouting report ;)

Good read. It seems they can attribute a lot of their success to a not settling for good enough, tough love mindset. Marshall has really gotten these kids to buy-in and play at their full potential. Good luck to your team in the big dance.

Nice article and interesting at the same time.

Would be fun if SI and WSU would allow the writer to keep hanging out and follow through the tournament.

I enjoyed the article too. Marshall is one intense guy. Aspects of his personality remind me of Michael Jordan. If you've read "the Jordan Rules" you know what I mean.

Marshall's an interesting guy. There's a very weird dichotomy between his intensity as a coach/person and his hands-off approach to in-game coaching. Intense coaches tend to be micro-managers. I honestly can't think of another coach I've seen that has his "timeouts are for cowards" approach to game-management.

There was a point early on in the conference season where he called Darius Carter soft, and that seems to be echoed by his comments here to Early. As far as I can tell there's nothing that makes him angry as a coach like not playing with all-out effort and physicality.

Good article from the Sporting News on his 'no-time-outs' philosophy: http://www.sportingnews.com/ncaa-basket ... -ron-baker
