You may not see it from Wichita but just because you don't see it from your basketball slanted viewpoint does not mean it doesn't exist. If there wasn't I'd ask why have all these schools made that move in the last 10 years and why do we continue to hear about other FCS schools exploring the possiblity?

I find it amusing that the attack dogs on this are associated with WSU. Why do all of you care? You're leaving the conference anyway. The AAC, MWC, A10 or Big East all beckon you.

As I stated earlier, I hope it doesn't happen but if it does I understand. Perhap ISUr will be in a position to make that move at some point. :bounce:

I urge you to move on out. I think I am speaking for some on this fine forum, I don't care whether you stay in the Valley or head for the Sun. Good luck in your decision.

How many years should we expect, before the mighty Bars are playing in a major bowl?

How many years should we expect, before the football program is no longer losing money?

Just wondering.

You are the one assuming something about FCS because of your superior football background apparently. It should be apparent that I'm a BU person. :?

At some point here I've mixed up you and jwa. My fault. Sorry!

No worries...was just confused about the tone ;)

I WENT TO SMSU (MSU) a long time ago. Don't remember them ever having a good football team, except in 1963 when they had an undefeated NAIA regular season but were defeated in a post season bowl game by Northern Illinois. Fifty and sixty years they drew very good crowds that filled the old stadium and the student bleachers. Football is a pageant: see the game, look at the cheerleaders, listen to the music and watch the marching band, look at the pretty coeds, see the waving banners and flags, watch the crowd.

Several years ago, 20 or so ???, An old grad gave them money to expand and improve the stadium. Haven't heard of a lot of SMSU?MSU FB success over the years.

My brother still lives in Springfield. I asked him if he had heard rumors that MSU was thinking above moving to the SUNBELT for football. He started laughing so hard I thought he was going to fall out of his chair or have a heart attack. Said he never heard of such a proposal. They have a big stadium but it is almost always empty. My nephew in Springfield works for a sports media production / filming company. He is around HS and college sports everyday. He said he had never heard a MSU to the SUNBELT rumor.

It's a pretty simple calculation - if you have the ability to move from FCS to FBS, then you do it. A lot of people are looking at past financial figures for non-AQ leagues, but are forgetting that even the small non-power conference shares from the new College Football Playoff make it financially worth it to make the move. That's why there's such a rush right now to get one of the very last spots in places like the Sun Belt. More importantly, FCS is the worst of both worlds now - schools at that level are still paying a large amount for football scholarships on the expense side while not receiving much (if any) revenue. It's not as if though FCS football is a money-saving operation compared to being FBS. Going to FBS might mean spending more for larger football teams and upgrading coaches and facilities, but there is still much more revenue just from the CFP playoff even at the Sun Belt level. That's why every single school in the country that has a halfway decent shot at going from FCS to FBS is looking seriously at the move (and would make the move if an FBS conference was willing to invite them). As a result, getting one of those last spots in the Sun Belt is actually a very big deal financially, so I don't blame Missouri State for gunning for it. FCS is a complete financial purgatory by comparison.

The Shockers may get a chance to play the Bears in a 2 vs 15 or 3 vs 14 NCAA tournament game in the near future!

Could be. At this point I'd settle for just making the tournament.

First, I don't understand Royal Shock's comment above. When, where and in what context will this 2 VS 15 or 3 VS 14 Shockers/BEARS game happen. Is this some kind of slam or did you sleep through the MVC season and Arch Madness.

Another comment on MSU football. MSU benefactor John Q Hammonds pledged the money to build the new Hammonds Center. Mr. Hammonds died within the last year or so and there is speculation that the Hammonds foundation will not complete payment on the Center. MSU supposedly facing a very large debt. May effect football expansion plans-move to the SUNBELT. This is what I hear. Perhaps some Springfield MSU fans can comment further.

A city sales tax might come in handy to support football.

Also, the university might increase student activity fees.
