Big Ten vs Big East tipoff challenge

cdizzle is exhibiting unbridled optimism when he says: "Wait 3 years, and we can try scheduling one with the Big East." That's not going to happen. If the Mountain West is no longer interested, the MVC should be pursuing such a challenge with another conference (e.g. Atlantic 10). I don't see a downside to this type of challenge as long as the other conference is on a "par" with the MVC or better

It's a two-way street. Don't you think the other conference would like the conference they sign a deal with to be "on par or better than" they are? For the MVC, that list doesn't include the A10 right now. In 3 years, it might include the Big East. That league is average, and may drop.

It would appear that the Big 10 does not think the Big East is "average" or they would not have entered into the challenge that was announced this week

Which is why I said wait 3 years. For two reasons.

1. It's kinda fun to hate on the nBE.
2. The nBE has some issues that they're going to have to deal with. There is a reason Buzz bailed. Some of the top programs in that league aren't going to be great for the next couple of years. Unless they cycle in some more talent, they are trending down, not up.

How much would Wichita St be willing to pay to get an invite to the Big East? Or any league?

It would be interesting to know your rationale for picking the Valley over the Big East. What conferences would you pick over the Valley if WSU received an invite?

My main contention is that WSU is such a terrible institutional fit with the Big East that it would never work. The basketball league is certainly a little better as it stands right now. But I already don't like the way WSU's vote in conference matters is marginalized because of institutional differences in the Valley. It would be 100x worse in the BE, and the BE isn't providing a big enough bump up to make it worth it.

Just one guys opinion. None of it matters anyway; WSU ain't going nowhere.
