Early reports from summer scrimmages are showing up. Reports from summer are typically positive past reality, but the reports for WSU this year are more upbeat than I've seen previously.
Eric Hamilton (6'9" PF) is said to be as athletic as Early was. He's said to be better at driving to the hoop than Early was when he arrived on campus. Hamilton is reported to have no hesitation to shoot a 3 - and makes a decent percentage of them. He's also still rumored to be candidate for a year of prep school or to take red shirt.
There has been some confusion about Zach Brown (6'7" wing) and Rashard Kelley (6'7" PF). One of them ( I suspect it's Kelley) is a true stretch 4. Bangs down low, hits from outside, and takes it to the hoop off the dribble.
Lots of good comments about Corey Henderson (6'3" PG) from observers, players, and Marshall.
Wamukota (7' post) is said to be ahead of where Orukpe was at similar times - better hands - better knowledge of what to do with the ball when he has it. Has some post moves, is an aggressive shot-blocker and rebounder.
Baker is driving to the hoop from the perimeter and stuffing a lot of drives and rebounds. Baker was shooting 3's from 20' - 25' in the background of a 4-minute interview with Marshall. He was hitting over 80% - although that was unguarded.
VanVleet may be more deceptive and may have improved his athleticism. Observers say he's put his game past where it was last year.
Before Baker ever played a game, observers said he was the best shooter on the team. Ri'an Holland (6'0" SG/PG) may be getting the same comments, even with Baker still playing.
