WSU had a 43 point lead with 12 minutes to go at which point the starters no longer saw the floor. 8 players with 0 D-I minutes rotated with 3 walk-ons for the remainder of the game and pushed the lead to 61 before winning by 57.

12 players played 10+ minutes.
14 players scored.

In addition to today's starters (VanVleet, Baker, Cotton, Wessel, Carter) freshman Ri'an Holland, Rauno Nurger, and Rashard Kelly will pair with Bush Wamukota as the 9 man rotation. Corey Henderson also looked good at PG.

Ron Baker scored 22 points in 23 minutes.

Baker was impressed with "Big Bush" (7 foot Tom "Bush" Wamukota)…not to be confused with "Lil Bush" (Zach Bush, sophomore walk-on).

Henderson looking good was big for me. There were a few times last year that we had to put JRS into the game in the first half. Henderson out there means that foul/injury trouble won't have our team being lead by a walk-on unless we're running out the clock at the end.

We've got legit 3-deep depth at every position now, with big and small lineups. That's better than I was hoping to have going into the season with zero experience behind the starters.

SIU beats Southwest Baptist 79-63 today.

Lavender is going to be a decent one for us. Defense is a little suspect this year, especially early. For years I have been screaming that I wanted more 85-80 wins instead of the low scoring games that SIU was famous for. Hopefully we are on the winning side a little more this year.

Start the regular season with SLU on Saturday.

@GoShockers: Shocker bench outscores the Seahawks' entire squad 65-55 in today's exhibition; final score 112-55. http://t.co/rcuuus0kij/s/xCSS

By my count the bench outscored the starters also LOL.

I was surprised Wichita State scored as much as they did, but the real story was the newcomers. I'll start by talking for a little on the starters though.

Fred wasn't looking for his shot and his outside shot wasn't falling, but clearly could good past his man at will while sitting up everyone else. Baker may be even better than last year and was on another level from the other 9 whenever he was in. Wessel hit a three, hopefully a good sign for things to come. Carter is making the hook shots that he tended to miss last year, and Tekele had some new moves. In general though, expect the same sort of play you saw last year.

Our newcomers were exciting. Holland could have impressed me without making any shots, doing his best Briante Weber (VCU) impression on defense and making good decisions on offense most of the time. However, he was on fire with 16 points in 21 minutes (6-7 FG, 4-4 3PT). Playing like that he would start on some Valley teams.

Nurger was the first big. He wasn't as polished as Holland was, but by his senior year the Valley will hate him. He is capable of shooting on the perimeter, but wasn't connecting today. Most of his offense came from dribble drives, but it looks like he has a decent post game and shooting stroke. His rebounding and defense are better than expected for a freshman big. However he did remind me a little of Darius early last year, in that he wanted to shoot whenever he touched the ball.

All of the other newcomers had their moments. Henderson looked solid as a back-up for Fred, but didn't have a ton of plays. Wakumota pulled off a dream shake, which completely surprised me. Kelly's decision making wasn't great, but his athleticism showed with 6 rebounds. Glass and Shaq were the least polished of the bunch.

The score got out of hand because of our bench. Our starters combined for 77 minutes and 47 points, the bench with 133 minutes and 65. 5 players made 3s, and as a team we went 7-13. Biggest problem I saw was that our bench was missing a lot of FTs, going 11-22. It will be interesting to see how many minutes the bench will get against a real opponent. I think Holland and Nurger will get dependable minutes every game (15-17), with the other players getting varying minutes depending on matchups.

I thought Kelly and Wamukota were about even with Nurger. We will see how they look next Saturday against New Mexico St which starts two 7 footers and a 6-8 wing.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well. He had some good moments, but except for a few times, he took the shot when he got the ball.

I also thought it was a bit odd that he was just kind of standing around mid-court waving his arms in the air while FVV would bring the ball out. I was a bit more impressed with Bush overall, which I didn't expect.
