SIU at Drake

Dawgs vs Dogs

Two young teams.....two teams who's fan bases are down on their coaches.

Will Drake play the prevent offense, or will they come out firing? Will the Bulldogs wilt at any sign of pressure from SIU? Will SIU have any kind of outside game? Which sophomore center will get the best of things?

If Phelps starts the same line-up as against Chicago State, I like Drake's chances. If he goes back to the previous line-up, Bulldogs are in trouble.

Yep, I just saw that thread on Salukitalk. I hope Drake's coaches are still preparing a game plan that assumes Teague is playing. It looks like Teague could be out, but certainly nothing official.

It definitely wasn't pretty, but a win is a win.

DU jumped out to an 18-5 lead and SIU never threatened again. The lead in the second half was never less than 8, and never more than 15.....neither team could make a run.

Never would have believed Drake could win by double digits with 7 assists and 19 turnovers. Bulldogs shot well from 3 (9-18), but really didn't play well overall. I'm not sure what that says about SIU. At least most of the mistakes were aggressive mistakes.

Officiating was horrible, especially in the first half. But, I would expect nothing different in any game with Gerry Pollard as one of the officials. Pollard, Sanzere and Pretty Boy Higgins......yeah, doesn't get any better than that.

Wedel and Rice led the Bulldogs with 16 apiece. SIU was without Teague, Drake without Jordan Clarke and Jeremy Jeffers. Drake's Kraidon Woods took 2 shots to the face on consecutive possessions in the first half, and had to leave for stitches after leaving blood all over the floor.

Bulldogs tied for 1st in the MVC.....I'm pretty sure that's the last time I'll be able to say that for at least a year.

Regarding those officials, just be happy they let you guys play with a men's basketball...

Good one.

I'm just happy for the team. A solid home opening win should give them a little confidence. The game at Creighton on Saturday will act as a better barometer of what to expect the rest of the conference schedule.

I agree, Pollard is the worst. I'd add Janssen to the list of really crappy MVC refs as well; he's a very close second to Pollard in my book.

You'll get no argument from me. Bulldogs seem to get Janssen a lot. Last year, one of his horrible calls actually gave Drake a victory.
