Non Conference All Conference

I know that the Non Conference part of the schedule isn't quite finished but who would you have for awards?

Mine:

1st Team
Baker
Tuttle
VanVleet
Ballentine
Washpun

2nd Team
Marshall
Mockevivius
Beane
Knight
Doyle
Jones

Player of the Year
Ron Baker

Defensive Player of the Year
Fred Van Vleet

6th Man of the Year
Wes Washpun

Newcomer of the Year
Warren Jones

Freshman of the Year
Wyatt Lohaus (Homer pick, but there hasn't been a freshman stick out to me)

Coach of the Year

Interesting idea. Would be fun to revisit when all the non-con games are accounted for.

Your list looks decent. Personally, I would swap Mock and Balentine. Not having Marshall on 1st team seems almost criminal at this point given his start to the season offensively, but I like to remember there is more to a game than scoring points. I think Marshall, FVV, and Washpun are all very close and you could probably make decent arguments on how to order all 3 right now. If you start weighting performance based at all on level of competition faced and results, Marshall probably falls into 3rd of that group.

In the 3 or so UNI games I've seen this year, Washpun is clearly their most improved player if not their most valuable. The difference in energy and enthusiasm when he's on the court is stunning.

Hard to argue with most of that.

I'd give NOY to DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell. Most of the stats are real close. DAP gets almost 1.7 rebs more and shoots about 16% better from the field in 6 less min per game.

Warren gets about 1/2 points more, .2 asst, .4 steals, .4 blocks, while averaging .4 TO less.

All those stats being virtually equal, I'd take the guy playing less and getting virtually the same as the award winner.

I like Doyle on the first team over Washpun. Mock is another one that SHOULD be first team but won't.

Jones and DAP are both missing significant time with injury, so it's hard to get a feel for them as NOY.

Carter is a potential second teamer, but he has to maintain what he's done over the previous three games and have fewer games limited by fouls.

Jordan Caroline is my FOY.

I can't accept any team that has one of the nations top scorers behind a guy that doesn't start for his own team.

I know Marcus is on a bad team but it's not like the Bears run him through 100 screens to get him open (a guy in that system got 1st team last year). He is the biggest threat by far on the team, gets the most defensive attention by far, has no plays run to get him a shot, handles the bulk of the ball handling responsibilities, and simply hasn't been shut down. Shooting percentage, 3 pt percentage, FT percentage, and any other measure indicate it's not shoot enough and you'll get your poits with him.

I would put Marshall ahead of Washpun, but Marshall has no ancillary stats. Balentine is a reasonable rebounder and gets lots of assists, as well as playing for a better team. I'm not looking at the stats right now for comparison (all off of recollection) so let me know if I am incorrect in my ascertain.

Tuttle doesn't have 7 double doubles in 10 games. hasn't been the player of the week for the MVC twice hasn't led the MVC in scoring percentage at center. Hard to not put him on the first team and move Tuttle to second

A few things going for Tuttle over Mock:

1) He's a senior
2) He was a first teamer last year/pre-season first team this year
3) He plays on a team projected to be better
4) He is viewed (right or wrong) as the best player on his team

#3and 4 could swing in Mock's favor, but it might result in the replacement of one Ace for another.
