4. Dan Muller - Illinois State
5. Jim Les - Bradley

Fran has to be the whiniest coach in college basketball. Punching him in the face would be a delight.

This was the last time Iowa played in Cedar Falls...just after his second T and threatening the official. Then needing to be restrained and escorted by the cops, which are being called for by the official

There's not a single DI coach that doesn't ride an official.
It's what they do. Especially, on the road.
Coach K, Calipari, Pitino, Bo Ryan, all of them.
There's no one, in here that wouldn't do the same thing, if you were in a position to do so.
If you claim that you wouldn't, I'd say, "then just read some of your posted comments, during a game".
It be enough proof right there to show I was be correct.

There's a huge difference between riding an official like Muller or taking a Ben Jacobson like approach.

BTW...Ryan, Coach K, Calipari, Pitino, etc... all are much more vocal but if you think them doing it is the same as Muller, Jank, SImmons, etc...

Then...

Well...

It makes sense why you wouldn't like the term "Evansvilled"

I've seen a coach complain much more than that.. Marshall every time I watch a Shocker game

I understand why IlSU fans troll on this issue (still complaining over the post-game after IlSt knocked WSU out of Arch Madness), but do other Valley fans think Marshall complains too much?

I've never gotten that impression. I've always thought he worked the refs the same as any other coach, but at least in the last several years I've never seen him like that. Maybe earlier on in his time at WSU with some of those first few mediocre-to-bad teams. I missed the vast majority of those games, pre-ESPN3, after joining the military.

Although I never really get bothered by it anyway. I've seen it work too many times to fault any coach for doing it. The ridiculousness of it is how easily refs are swayed by what coach talks to them. It still bugs me how Thad Matta was nearly able to change that WSU/Ohio State Elite 8 game's outcome by changing the way the refs called the game in the second half -- but I don't fault Matta for trying to, I just fault the refs for buying it.

I don't fault Muller, either. I fault the MVC coaches that aren't working the refs. Some coaches do cross that threshold into just being pathetic about it, but I've never seen that from Marshall (or Muller).

I feel like Marshall whined quite a bit his first year here, including when he got thrown out in STL. Maybe that was a product of the team being pretty mediocre and him being a little tense from it. Since that, I don't think he's much of a whiner. Not any more than Coach K, Pitino, etc. I think people see him yelling a lot and automatically assume he's yelling at the refs, when he's actually yelling at one of his players.

When you have a respected program and coach you don't need to whine. Refs are human and understand who is whining and who is just ribbing them to remind them that they are there and they saw that missed call that was given earlier. Hopefully that clears up the differences in question about Marshall and Muller.

He also had a huge problem with Technical Fouls his first year. He had a ton of them that year. Since then, he has gotten a lot fewer of them.

He has let some of the more debatable calls that have gone against Wichita State rattle him more than he should and has made some mistakes because of that. Opposing fans who don't like him see that and it colors how they see him courtside during a normal game.

And the interactions between the WSU and IlSU coaching staffs over Dana Ford leaving WSU for IlSU before finishing the two year commitment he gave Marshall also colored how each fanbase views the other coach.

It's really humorous in noting that Muller has a leg up on Marshall in the technical foul count this year.

The return game is going to get ugly. I expect to see some players ejected in that game.

If that's what you expect, I think you'll be disappointed.

On the Redbird side especially, nearly every player is new since the biggest issue in this "rivalry" - the chest kick game.

Our players will play hard and they'll compete against Wichita because they know Wichita is an elite team. We seem to play to the level of our opponent. If WSU comes out and plays a physical in your face game, which we all know they do really well, then you'll see the same back.

The reason I don't think we'll see ejections is that the most recent game wasn't as chippy as they were a couple years ago. Hard fought? Physical? Absolutely. But you didn't have all the unnecessary stuff that leads to retaliation and ejection. I don't see a reason for that to change during the return trip.
