If that's what you expect, I think you'll be disappointed.

On the Redbird side especially, nearly every player is new since the biggest issue in this "rivalry" - the chest kick game.

Our players will play hard and they'll compete against Wichita because they know Wichita is an elite team. We seem to play to the level of our opponent. If WSU comes out and plays a physical in your face game, which we all know they do really well, then you'll see the same back.

The reason I don't think we'll see ejections is that the most recent game wasn't as chippy as they were a couple years ago. Hard fought? Physical? Absolutely. But you didn't have all the unnecessary stuff that leads to retaliation and ejection. I don't see a reason for that to change during the return trip.

The chest kick was a bizarre play. The start of the issues I remember between WSU and ISU players was when John Wilkens punched Garrett Stutz in the gut/groin in the semifinals in St Louis.

I don't think we will see any ejections in the rematch.

How can you call the series a "rivalry"? It's too one-sided to be a rivalry. WSU has absolutely owned Illinois State for the better part of the last decade. A rivalry requires competition from both sides. Picking your team first and then playing the team that is coming off first still doesn't fit the bill either.

That's ridiculous. The Yankees owned the Red Sox for the better part of a century and I don't know too many people that would deny that is a rivalry. The Cardinals have also owned the Cubs for more than a century. That's still a pretty heated rivalry.

It is true that a rivalry implies that both teams win at least some of the time, but to most people that is not a real qualifier.

Information spreading in Wichita is that the IlSU player that decked Baker ran back to the bench yelling "I got him, I got him" and DM gave him a high five.
Regardless, DM is 0-6 against GM, and IlSU is 3-12 against WSU over the last 15g and 6-17 over the last 15 years.

I remember during the Jackie Chan incident at Normal, IlSU fans allegedly throwing coins at WSU after the Shox won that game.

IlSU always used to be a classy organization. What in the world has happened?

For "owning" the Red Sox the Yankees have only won 54% of the games against them all time.
Also..the Cubs lead the all time Series with the Cards 1,180-1,126 with 19 ties.

Tough to call either one of those "owning" for over a century, especially when one of them actually has the team being "owned" leading the all time series.

I guess if you want to talk WS titles...sure

Those also involve territorial battles, deep rooted divisions within families, are over 100 years old, they play each other 18-26 times per year (pending playoffs), etc...

Yes, I'm sure all of this is true.

My Lord, won't the coin tossing rumor ever die? I was at that game and I was at the end where the alleged coin tossing supposedly happened.

There were no coins tossed. Let me repeat, there were no coins tossed.

Your mistake. You brought facts to a discussion with an ISUr fan. Unless you're spewing unfounded vitriol against Marshall, I'm pretty sure your statements are just going to go right over their heads.

Exactly, Red Sox have 3 titles in the last 11 seasons. Yankees have only 1.

Not a rivalry. :bounce:
