Almost no one outside of UE is impressed with his system or his results, but most UE fans love his style and his win totals...while at the same time completely infuriating another portion of it.

I've not seen this much outrage, and love at the same time, about a coach with a 10 win OOC and 11 wins by Jan 1st of a season since...well..maybe ever.

I guess it all depends on how much you are willing to weaken your schedule to get wins.

As a season ticket hooder for close to 10 years now I'm tired of our super soft non-conference schedule just so Marty can get wins before the conference.

I always thought the Aces played pretty good OOC teams, as a Valley fan over the years watching the Aces, North Carolina, Butler, Murray State, Middle Tennessee, Belmont, Valpo, Notre Dame.

Have always enjoyed going to the Ford center and taking in the sports bar across the street or the Gerst Haus. Always friendly fans that like to talk basketball. The old arena had the best parking in the Valley.

How many of those are wins? I honestly have no idea.

It's one thing to play those games. It's a completely different thing to win them

The games with IU and UNC went about as expected when playing top 5 teams in those years, beatdowns

We had quite a bit of success against Butler though, so much so that they won't play us anymore. UE beat them both years that Butler was runner-up in the NCAA tourney, once at our place, once at theirs. I'd love to start playing them again; not too far away and good for the RPI, win or lose

The Bradley team that I saw tonight plays like a lower division team.

Well I wasn't very impressed with the 15th team in the country against a "lower division" team. Got outplayed for a half, and Bradley was right there for thirty minutes. If they could score at all, that game is much closer.

Very true. If WSU could continue to shoot worse than their average and Bradley could continue to shoot well above their average, Bradley could have potentially even won!

Did you just point out that the arena was 40% full as a bragging point?

Citing wins directly is why fans are split. Win totals don't really matter with a 246 noncon SOS -- the third worse in the Valley behind SIU and Bradley, which is pathetic for a team as loaded as Evansville and clearly planning on being a top half team.

Regardless of how many games Simmons wins, he's created a program that cannot have postseason success, because they'll never make the NCAA tournament without winning St. Louis, and they'll never make the NIT without winning the regular season. And with one season in Simmons' entire career above .500 in Valley play, the latter isn't very likely.

Evansville is 3-3 against top 150 RPI teams, and 6-1 against sub-200.

WOW! Those are some Top Class World Power OOC games there, and you can add SIU Edwardsville, Goshen College if you want. Any Evansville fan should be proud to spend their dollars on those games.

Now that is a silly, condenscending, BCS kind of reply.
