Suppose KU will schedule WSU now or will Bill Self still veto it out of fear of the Shox?

Because I didn't follow the saga of the KU AD search, was this a surprise or did ISU red fans see this coming?

Who knew that years ago when IlSU fans were talking about joining the Big 12, they had it part right....

A bit of both. I believe it was the Tulsa AD who was originally picked but then backed out at the last minute. We knew that Zenger was in the running, so this didn't come as a total surprise.

I'm indifferent right now. He seems to have hired some decent coaches, but his legacy will be defined by their succeses and failures.

He was hired to enhance football, and we are about where we were at when he was hired; old stadium and average team.

And the new boss is greeted by the arrest of a basketball player. Go figure.

The history of AD's at KU in the last 15 years is dismal. One of them actually tried to be in charge of the athletic department, so Roy Williams left for UNC and the AD was fired.

Then Lew Perkins was the hero of KU fans while the department stole millions of $$ worth of tickets allotted to KU and gave them to AAU coaches, boosters, and others. Some were sold and the father of a KU basketball player made over $600K in two years from the stolen tickets.

Perkins was allowed to retire as soon as a huge bonus was going to kick in. Then KU "allowed" him to retire before that date and still gave him the bonus.

Then their first choice studied the situation and decided he liked it at Tulsa instead of KU. KU pays unbelievable amounts to their AD. Tulsa does not. The speculation is that Bill Self is actually in charge of the athletic department and the AD has the title, a great paycheck, responsibility for raising money and no real power in the department.

KU will eat him up, grind him down, and spit him out. KU has been a career-ender for ADs.

My concern is - what happens to IlSU? The wrong hire for an AD can ruin a program for years (WSU in the '90s). IlSU will have a great channel to KU, but I don;'t know if hring KU assistants is always going to be a good formula for basketball success. Hiring assistants is always a risk.

Does the IlSU Pres seem to be a strong supporter of athletics? The Prez hires the AD and an anti-sports Prez is what made WSU athletics irrelevant for a decade.

From time to time one of us will make an arrogant or negative remark about another conference or another team based on that conference or team's stature, RPI, or reputation. I will then get on my soapbox about respecting others and remind the poster that folks in other places look down at the MVC. Below is a comment about the Missouri Valley Conference and ISU AD who is going to the Big 12:

@Vinny1: you're completely correct. Who is this guy? its like he was AD for a community college or something. It's the same mistake as Gill. He may have accomplished a lot in his league, but this is a whole other league. And with the amount that we pay these people, you'd think we would have top talent. At a D1 school and with the money we pay, we should be trading talent with some of the biggest ADs in that arena - not some up and comer from a league no one's ever heard of.
There is no difference between basketball and life. Give both your best and ignore the "fans" on the sideline.

Guess he's not a fan of the basketball team.
