The reason for the robes and the sleeve was the Armory, where the Aces played prior to Roberts Stadium was drafty and would get cold during the season. The Orange came from a study that McCutchan did on color Apparently Orange is a color that stood out to the eye. Thus he had the Aces wear orange on the road. UE adopted the color Orange as a school color as an honor to Coach Arad

I like UE's orange alternates.

I knew about this tragedy, however I never read details about it. Like SHOXMVC, the 1970 WSU plane crash is still fresh in my mind and a memory that will always live with me. Thankfully, I took the time to read this entire article (I probably needed it); my thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the Aces family that has suffered from this tragedy. For some strange reason, "We Are Marshall" is one of my favorite movies; although heartbreaking and tragic, it's uplifting and gives me hope for the future. Go Aces!

Mark Adams wrote an ESPN article about the tragedy a few years ago. He tweeted a link to the story a few weeks ago. @EnthusiAdams.

On behalf of Aces fans, thanks for the kinds words from the Valley fans. It's a nice reminder that we fans have a lot more in common than we have differences.

When ESPNU started they had a college basketball countdown series and this Evansville tragedy was on one about biggest stories in college hoops history, along with the point shaving scandals and CCNY dual titles over Bradley. One of the interesting things I remember learning was that Jerry Sloan had been hired just before the season but resigned after just 5 days.

I grew up near the crash site. We would ride our bikes in that area, which we called the canyon, but remember this is Indiana and we were kids. I can picture the dead-end road, railroad tracks and the area described in the story. I also remember the night of the crash. I recall hearing dozens of sirens for emergency vehicles. A friend called and said it was a small plane crash. I don't remember if it was later than evening or the next morning when we learned it was the Aces charter.

I remember the night....I was shopping in a local grocery stop when an announcement went out over the P A system....the Evansville Aces' plane had just crashed....shoppers stood in quiet clumps of people, many crying. It was such a gray, rainy night and it seemed that the whole city was crying.

I think our fans have a special feeling for each of our teams. We know what is like to lose everything, everyone. Each year the night is remembered and those who perished are honored. This story posted here shows the depth of sorrow for so many families of those lost.
