This is the view from behind UNI's bench from Greg McDermott's other son.

I was pretty supportive of the potential upside of Loyola when they were added.

That support is waning....very quickly

What do they actually bring the conference that we didn't already have?

In fairness, I think a lot of the things we could say about Loyola now were said about UNI and 25 years ago.

What does Evansville bring? At least with a healthy Doyle Loyola was winning games it should win and had a strong RPI. Last year was poor, thing year has gone down hill, but Evansville is still struggling as usual.

The conference is in a much different spot than it was in 1992/1993.

The key selling point to Loyola was the market. It's pretty freaking clear...I said the other F word so that people stop complaining about using "big boy bad words" that the Loyola marketing doesn't give two squirts of piss about Loyola.

I know UNI has had some attendance issues in the past but we still average 4K in down years. There could not have been more than 500-700 people in that arena tonight...including teams, coaches, officials and administrators. No TV for the game. No ESPN3 for the game. No mention in any Chicago media for the game. Nothing.

The arena, even when sold out, holds less people than pretty much every school averages.

I was told on Twitter tonight that the Blackhaws had a home game vs Detroit tonight - being a Det fan I was aware of this. That home game was the reason for the poor attendance. The Chicago MSA has 10 million people in it. Let's take this to the extreme to show how bad this really is in terms of what media we really are getting that we didn't already get.

19K in the arena - 9,981,000 people left
Let's pretend that 70% of TVs in the MSA are watching the game - 3,981,000 people left
30% of the city is watching the Blackhawks game on TV - 981,000 people left

There are still, essentially, ONE MILLION PEOPLE LEFT within 30ish miles of that arena. That means they need less than ONE HALF OF ONE PERCENT of the left over population to fill that arena. ONE HALF OF ONE PERCENT.

Assuming 90% of the city is watching the Blackhawks game Loyola still has more people within 30 miles of their arena than any other team in the conference, and more than a handful of the MSAs combined.

We clearly aren't going to actually start getting any media attention in Chicago. Now what's the reason?

UNI fans probably shouldn't be leading the charge against other teams based on attendance. I mean, you're #11 in the country, and you can't fill up a 7200 seat arena. It is what it is, but maybe not an argument you want to get too involved in.

7200 won't be reached again. Fire Marshall put a quick stop to that one after the 09/10 season The announced crowd vs WSU is as big as it ever will be again.

What does it tell you though if a fans of UNI, who bitch about our attendance non-stop, that there is this much talk about Loyola's?

If it was 1700 last night (not even close) then about 1500 were UNI fans. It is really confusing at the beginning of a road game to hear all of the cheers and yells occur when UNI does something good. I actually thought it was sarcastic or that Loyola had given up on their team. Wouldn't have guessed we brought that many and Loyola brought that few. I feel bad for the players. Bad enough they lost the one player that could propel them to 3rd this year, but their fans are non-existent too
