In fact I'm not sure I can remember a post player as dominant as Tuttle has been the last year? At least not in the last decade. He's consistently made the other Valley 5's look like high school players in head to head matchups. That's why I think he deserves POY.

I think Tuttle deserves POY as well, but I think you could say the same thing for FVV there. He's clearly, head-and-shoulders, above all other MVC point guards.

Just from conference stats alone, looking at scoring, rebounding, FG%, assists, FT%, steals, 3PT%, A:TO, FVV is #1 among MVC PGs in four of those nine categories ... possibly five (I honestly don't know who SIU's PG is supposed to be; if you consider it Beane, FVV falls to second in PPG). I believe he's tied with Brown in rebounds, he's slightly behind Timmer for second in FT%, he's third in steals behind Paris Lee and Dorian Williams, second in 3PT% to Lee, and nearly double the nearest PG in A:TO ratio. He also ranks in the top 10 MVC players in all of those statistics except rebounds ... and he's right around #15 there. No other MVC PG (except maybe Beane?) checks in more than twice in any of those.

FVV and Tuttle are both absolutely dominant at their positions. Which is I think the one negative you can say about Baker: he might be the best player in the league, but comparing guys relative to their position competition, he's not better relative to the other 2s in the league than FVV/Tutle are to the other 1s/5s.

Also ... never noticed this before, but it looks like FVV, Cotton, and Baker rank 1-3 in A:TO in the Valley? 3.75:1, 2.3:1, and 2:1 respectively. Also scary that Baker is 5th in blocks per game.

Question for UNI fans: if Tuttle gets an post-seasoon All-American nods (1st, 2nd or 3rd teams), does he get his jersey retired?

Nope.

We don't retire jerseys in any sport. There should be 2 or 3 hanging for basketball as it is and it isn't done, so I would be really surprised if it happened.

Pete Spoden, Jason Reese, Ben Jacobson, and now Seth Tuttle should be done.

Do any Shockers have thiers retired? I honestly don't know

As BC said, UNI doesn't do it for any sport. Tuttle would/should if we did.

Would be pretty interesting if he grabbed 1st or 2nd team honors with CPOY, with where he is on all the record lists though if that might be revisited.

Obviously for homer reasons I think Tuttle should win.

I wouldn't be mad at anyone for thinking Van Vleet or Baker should win it though either. All are great players and all 3 obviously have great teams around them.

I pretty much agree with this (flipping my choice to FVV/Baker for obvious reasons). One of those three will win, and you can make a strong argument for any of them.

In the end it is a nice feather in the cap but sort of inconsequential. The real prize for both teams lies ahead later this month (and hopefully into April). From an individual standpoint, I expect all three of those players to receive at least Honorable Mention AA nods, and likely at least one of them will make 1st/2nd/3rd Team AA.

Xavier McDaniel, Antoine Carr, Cliff Levingston, and Dave Stallworth. It wouldn't surprise me to see Baker and Van Vleet up there in the future.

Head to head, usually.

So when Evansville split with UNI back in 2010, we didn't know who the better team was?

I would have no problem with it being FVV. But with others thinking Baker deserves it more, the vote will clearly be split among those who think it should go to a WSU player, and that's why I think Tuttle will win (and deservedly so).

There are legitimate arguments for Tuttle as PoY. This is not one of them. This is full-on green ribbon mode. Same for the CoY.
