If u could have Baker/van vleet as co-player of the year that would be my vote, but since u can't it would have to be Tuttle is my vote for player of the year.

If not for Tuttle, UNI would not have had the season they had and be the top 10-15 program. And it was good for WSU to have a team like UNI helping carry the water for the MVC. No hopefully both teams can make some noise in the NCAA.

So now we give the awards to any team that can be almost as good as WSU? These arguments are asinine. Look at the stats. Prove it to me with the numbers. Because honestly, the numbers are there for Tuttle.

At least there is a precedent for this. Just look at Valley baseball after about 1992.

I understand how others might pick Ron over Fred, but I'd bet if you polled all the coaches, Fred would get more votes. He doesn't put up the scoring stats like Ron, but he's the guy that runs our team and makes others look better. I think most Shocker fans would agree. We watch every game and Fred dictates the game, not Ron. If Ron has an off night or struggles with double teams, Fred picks up the slack and gets others involved. I'd love to see Tuttle/VanVleet as Co-POY but will be fine however it works out.

Do any Shockers have thiers retired? I honestly don't know

As BC said, UNI doesn't do it for any sport. Tuttle would/should if we did.

Would be pretty interesting if he grabbed 1st or 2nd team honors with CPOY, with where he is on all the record lists though if that might be revisited.

Xavier McDaniel, Antoine Carr, Cliff Levingston, and Dave Stallworth. It wouldn't surprise me to see Baker and Van Vleet up there in the future.

Isn't Cheese Johnson also in the rafters? At WSU, some say you have to achieve all-american status on some level to get a jersey retired, although I don't think there's a written policy anywhere. Cleanthony Early got some 2nd and 3rd team honors although some say he doesn't deserve it because he only spent 2 years at WSU. It will be interesting to see how it works out. My guess is it may be several years after these guys are gone before anything happens.

I still say give it to Tekele Cotton. This league likes to give green ribbons and "career accomplishment" awards (see: Odum). If ever there was a place for a "career accomplishment" award, it would be for Cotton.

Cotton finished his career 63-9 (.875) in 4 years of Valley play, with 3 conference championships and 1 runner-up. That's averaging a 15.75-2.25 league record. That's insane.

I actually completely agree with you about VV. Dude was unstoppable in that game on Saturday. If WSU needed a big play it was VanVleet. He scares me way more when we play WSU than Baker does. Baker always has a good game, but sometimes I wonder if he would be as good without VanVleet. Now some WSU fans might jump on me for that. I am not saying Baker is bad. He would still be great, but he would not be the player he is without VanVleet.

Difficult to disagree with that. Very few players in the country would not be better with VanVleet as their PG, for a lot of reasons.

You are correct about Cheese

Head to head, usually.

So when Evansville split with UNI back in 2010, we didn't know who the better team was?

Do you really want to try to make the argument 27-3 WSU is definitively better than 27-3 UNI when they split the season series? Ok.

I believe UNI still outscored WSU in the head to head games as well...FWIW...which is nothing
