Is WSU planning to give Marshall a new contract this offseason?

I know he received a very nice raise last year and I'm not sure what the ceiling is at WSU, but it seems like a reasonable raise ($150k-$200k) is not out of the question. Every little bit helps make those big boy offers look less appealing.

Anyone see a possibility of Marshall leaving if Indiana comes calling? If Crean gets canned, it opens up a premier job, with unlimited resources, a strong recruiting base, and a history matched by only a few schools in the NCAA. I have to think that IU will come to Marshall with an enormous offer if/when they fire Crean. Marshall would play very well at IU.

And don't misunderstand, I HATE Indiana University. I hope they hire Kurt Kanaskie as their next coach. But they're going to go after a coach who can win big, who inspires players and fans, and who could be there for 20 years, winning national championships. And they have the resources to get anyone they want.

Just curious if anyone thinks Marshall could be picked by that opportunity.

Would be shocked if they went after Marshall before Smart.

This is absolutely true. Not only does Smart have a longer track record, he also has a very entertaining and identifiable brand of basketball. VCU is a little bit like the Oregon of men's BB. Everyone seems to enjoy watching them play, even if you aren't a fan of the school.

I think Marshall's name will come up any time a high level coaching job comes open anywhere. And if UNI makes another splash in the NCAA's then Jacobsen's name will be right there with his every time.

My vote would be Lansing. Wouldn't necessarily expect it, but he is the only coach in the Valley (outside of Marshall and Jacobson who are in a WHOLE different category) who has had much success (not sure about Moser before Loyola joined the Valley). The chance of a job opening up that would be enough of an upgrade over Indiana State is higher than the kind of job that would attract Marshall or Jacobson.

I can see Marshall and IU. I agree that he'd play well there.

IU does offer all the things you mentioned, but also presents its own set of issues that Marshall has yet to deal with.

That said, I don't think he'd be the first choice at IU. The first call is going to Boston to feel out Brad Stevens when they fire Crean.

I'm really surprised ISUblue has one of the lowest or the lowest budget in the conference. They have a fairly large enrollment, some good history, and are in a decent sized market (by MVC standards).

Gregg is making something in the neighborhood of 1.4 million with bonuses that push the deal to 1.7 plus. Marshall has a seven year deal that automatically extends at the end of each season. He receives a 50 or 100K raise every season as part of the renewal.

I have no idea, if Coach Marshall would leave.

Most folks outside of the south do not understand the appeal that the south has on southern raised folks.

When Coach Bear Bryant left TAMU, he said, "Mammy is calling me home."

Coach Roy Williams said that he would retire at KU. After Coach Smith called, "Coach Williams said, "I am going home."

I believe that if Coach Marshall leaves WSU, it will be for a university, which is located in the south or southeast. Coach Marshall has been in Wichita for eight years and his roots are pretty deep. If WSU moved to a better conference, I do not think he would ever leave.

Texas University is in the southwest.

Texas is not the South. It is Texas. And if you are referring to University of Texas, Austin is definitely its own universe (in Texas). Kind of like Iowa City in Iowa.
