I would have preferred a 6 seed ... I'm fine with being underseeded, since it keeps us out of Kentucky's side of the bracket, but a 7 is a bit silly.

But ... Kansas.

I don't know how confident I am about WSU's run -- I'm pretty confident for them against Indiana, and against Notre Dame if it gets to that point. Kanasas is obviously going to be a tough one. But man that'd be a great way to make the Sweet 16.

I really, really like UNI's chances, though. I think they have a great shot at the Elite 8.

Both UNI and WSU are (not surprisingly) underseeded, but I like where they are in the brackets. Look past the number and see who each is playing and could have next and I think it's favorable.

I equate the seeding philosophy to being born into the royal family. You were born into a good SoS and therefore you make it.

What makes it even worse is the 2 biggest beneficiaries are UCLA and Texas this year, teams who don't need help like that.

Colorado State becomes the 2nd team with an RPI in the 20s not to make the tournament, and Indiana not only gets in, but gets to the 10 line with a 61 RPI.

Even though both our teams are underseeded I like both of their chances to at least get to the S16.

Just hope WSU doesn't look ahead to KU too much. Probably not much chance of that with Marshall at the helm. There will be a ton of emotion and fanfare if the Shox do play the jayhawks. Gotta love the selection committee (sometimes).

Go Panthers! Go Shox!

I think that Texas getting in is just horrendous. UCLA too.

Especially over Colorado State and Temple. And if Connecticut had won, Dayton (last team in) would've been out too. Insane.

I'm not one to get conspiratorial, but the conferences with heavy influence on this year's selection committee were exactly the ones that got overseeded.

When was the last time you could say the committee was fair/consistent with everyone? 2012?

:+1:

One of the things that always gets me on this is a clear focus on conference SOS and "good wins," versus win % against good teams. Like our resume compared to Louisville:

vs. Top 25: WSU 33%, Louisville 25%
vs. Top 50: WSU 50%, Louisville 30%
vs. Top 100: WSU 64%, Louisville 53%
Noncon SOS: WSU 61, Louisville 140

WSU wins every comparison against Louisville ... except Louisville got a lot more chances than WSU, and while they consistently won them at a lower rate, the sheer number of them gives them more.

That seems to be a theme across the selection process this year. There was little emphasis on rewarding the things that teams can control (noncon SOS, win % against good teams) and a massive over-emphasis on rewarding things teams don't control (conference SOS, quantity of games against top RPI teams).
