Shockers dominate #25 Utah

Postby ShoxNAwe » December 12th, 2015, 4:46 pm

Jakob Peoltl had his lowest output of the season against a weak Shocker frontline. Zach Brown leads the scoring for WSU with 14 points. Three turnovers. Frankamp and McDuffie display their wares. The Shockers finish a big week 2-0.

Utah's entire team had 5 assists. FVV had 6.

Very good defense by the Shockers, got Utah out of a rhythm. Once they got out of a rhythm and down by about 10 or so the guards stopped looking for the big guy or they would wait too long to feed him the ball so the Shocker defenseman could recover and gain better position. Impressive and much needed win

Maybe a weak frontline offensively but it's nice to run three BIGS who all play only the five. Marshall says that he told them at long as they play with effort, he'll play all of them equally, no matter if they are playing great or not with the idea of keeping them fresh.

1. 6'8 265 Shaq Morris
2. 6'11 Bush Wamakota
3. 6'10 Rauno Nurger

All are tall, and do have some nice physical qualities, not to mention 15 fouls. This is a nice recipe for success.

I guess the 3 together are adequate? Particularly the 15 fouls are useful. But I sure thought one of those 3 would be more consistent and productive this year. I just don't see any of those 3 doing much positive this year (so far) though beyond eating up space and grabbing a few boards. At least not consistently.

On a positive note Kelly and McDuffie look like really good young wing players.

Very impressive win today. VanVleet makes all the difference. I used to think Baker was better at his respective position but I think Fred is really the Shox mvp.

I like the Shox's chances at finishing in the upper half of the Valley this year.

If the all-time scoring leader in the Wichita City League can get it going off the bench, WSU just might be able to win that Thursday play-in game.

You probably mean Brown and McDuffie. McDuffie is averaging 8 points in 18 mpg, and Brown is averaging 7 in 18, but 12 per game (24 mpg) over his last 4. Those two are doing well at giving the Shox a third scoring option and providing solid defense.

Adequate? The 3 together held a lottery pick to 10 ppg below his season average. WSU's 3 backup post players (with Grady out with an injury), held one of the best post players in the nation to a minimal performance.

WSU's "adequate" post presence was 5/8 from the field for 10 points. Utah's lottery pick got 11 points. He was 4/5, but the fact that he only got 5 shots might say a little something about the D that WSU's "adequate" post players played against him.
