With the Redbirds playing at Drake looks like I'm heading over to the shockers Braves game will I see anybody else there?

WSU's rpi was 50 entering conference play. After winning two conference games (one on the road), the Shox rpi is now 83. SoS has dropped from something like 13 to 61.

The same thing happened with the Aces. They went from 73 to 87 with 2 wins. It is just a factor of how dreadful the bottom 5 teams in the Valley are this year- statistically speaking. One of the reasons I am afraid that the MVC might be a 1 bid league this year.

The non-conference schedules of SIU and UE just might prevent one of them from a tourney shot.

Might? .. UE or SIU are not getting in without winning arch madness. You simply can't have a schedule as bad as those two and get in. Neither have any quality wins, and have no chance in the conference season to get any.

I said 'might' because I am an optimist. :D The only way it might happen would be if they win the next 18 games and lose on a buzzer-beater in the MVC final. Even that would still be iffy at best. But that is less likely than the Colts' 9-game parlay that needed to happen yesterday.

The realist in me agrees with you whole-heartedly. I am just used to choosing my words carefully. Some Aces fans think our low-major non-conference schedule and pay for play CIT championships are important. Looking over the last 5 years, the NIT should have happened Colt Ryan's senior year and this year should be the NCAA year.

I think even that scenario puts them in the NIT. If you think about it, in order for UE or SIU to go 20-1 with a loss in the finals of Arch Madness, that means they need to beat WSU, UNI and the other of UE/SIU 2 or 3 times each. If any of those teams loses 2 games, their RPI will fall outside of the Top 50 (or Top 100 in UE/SIU)'s case. That leaves UE and SIU with ZERO top 50 wins. That's going to be tough for a mid-major team without any recent history of success. UNI has 2 big name wins and name recognition from last year. WSU has tons of name recognition, 2 wins over decent teams, and the whole "injury" thing that has already been said will be accounted for.

Until the whole league starts scheduling to try to secure an at-large bid, every one else is getting hurt. I think this year helps prove that. The team with the most hope of getting an at large bid is the team that entered conference play BARELY over .500 because they had a Top 5 SOS. The two teams with the gaudy record against 250+ SOS have no chance at all.

At 31-3, Evansville is getting in. But we're never going to know because they aren't good enough or tough enough to go 31-3 so let's just enjoy Wednesday's matchup between 2 good teams.

Kenpom has Shocks rated 32, and the Aces 47, as of this morning.
