There were questionable calls on both sides so in the end it equals out. Did mock foul him? Probably. but there were other times when they called them the other way. I just hope that when we play again its not Pollard and that crew or the game will last 4 hours because of the whistles. We will be seeing both teams e playing with their reserves totally in the end. We had that crew playing when playing ISUb and never saw so many fouls called. I am glad they let them play last night. So gook luck to everyone unless we are playing you. :D

They did let them play for the most part. Mock and Shaq were both called for a ridiculous foul in the 1st half. The last 2-3 minutes snow-balled into being pretty comical, but generally they were letting the players get after it.

Pretty high-quality game between a couple of good teams.

Agree completely. UE has fixed some of their issues (or at least it appeared that way in this game). WSU limited Mock and Balentine. Last year that meant UE scored 40 points. This year, other players stepped up and made WSU pay for some of their defensive choices.

I thought both teams were very locked in defensively. These are two veteran ball clubs with the same long-tenure coaches. Defenders knew where players were going and beat them to the spot all the time, on both sides. Pretty great game, really.

Believe me, The Aces fans would love to see a better non conference schedule, especially at home, they have played some good competition on the road this year.

The Aces staff was asked that question why they didn't try to get a few teams to play them this year and several told them not this year but maybe in a year or two after they graduate a few of their better players. They could not say which schools but it kind of said it was school close too Evansville. Not sure if they meant IU or Louisville. :bounce:

I would guess Louisville. They also seem willing to do an occasional home and home with mid majors.
I hope IU is never on the schedule again.

More likely the problem lies in the AD off with the change over. Stanley knew he was leaving before UE did and may have sluff off scheduling for the new AD . Anyway it became too late to get a good buy game and with UE athletics budget the SWAC teams were all they could afford. Just my guess on it.

It was a great game last night. I wished it was on ESPNU or 2 rather than 3. Perhaps more of the country would have gotten to see what the MVC has to offer.

I will say this about the reffing this game. It was bad. It was bad in the last 5 minutes, and it was bad in the 35 minutes before that. I can't tell you how many times I said to myself: "That's a travel. That's a hack. That's an over the back." And then on the other end there would be a touch foul, charge call on clearly moving player, etc. No consistency, and a lot of flat-out wrong calls and no-calls.

It was inconsistent throughout the night, and for about 35 minutes I'd say the bad calls leaned slightly our way. But in terms of overall impact on the points, the FTs make the most impact and Evansville got a lot of freebies. And Fred, bless his heart, needs to learn that he will not go to the line this season on a drive. He will get hit, and it will not get called. Needs to just shoot midrange jumpers and floaters instead of hoping the officials call the way they say they should.

Anyway, inconsistency has been my issue all year. Fouls are called differently from game to game, even from minute to minute. If they called all touch fouls on both teams, we could adjust. If they let players play, we could adjust. But no. It will be a touch flow on one end, and a no-call on a tackle on the other. It was bad last year, bad the year before, but it is terrible this year. We've literally lost a game in overtime despite making three 3PT baskets to our opponents solitary layup, and that is messed up.

When we lost to Alabama? They shot 18 more FTs and won by 4, and they did NOT play less physical. Against USC? They shot 7 more and won by 3. Again, they played equally or more physical.

I'm not blaming those losses (outside of Seton Hall) on the officials. But I hate the fact that the reffing is inconsistent and doesn't have any rhyme or reason. Physicality doesn't matter. Positioning barely matters. Verticality is a made-up term. I honestly have absolutely no idea what makes a ref call something a foul or not a foul, and that is something that can add up to a 20 PT swing in any given game.

That is not the point. it sounds like they did try to up the quality of Non Con teams. Besides depending on where I this this year we might just take IU. We would have problems scheduling Purdue because they don't like to play us because we kept beating them.

This is not a foul. Mock clearly takes off outside the arc and lands inside it, which is not vertical. His arm gets nearly parallel to the floorm which is not verticality. He never touched the ball, so it's out of bounds off VanVleet. Never mind that he had a foot on the arc before contact was made, while he was the secondary defender.;

This is a foul. Brown went straight up, kept his arm straight up, and got all ball. This was about 10 seconds after the previous "not a foul". Gotta love that "home cookin'" that kept Mock in the game and produced a 4-point swing in facvor of UE in a period of 10 seconds.
