KenPom analysis with mention of UE

In this article he discredits the RPI in favor of his own ranking system. Found it interesting that he used UE as his example.

Anybody’s ranking system should stand on its own. For instance, as I write this Evansville is ranked 41th in my system. That means that the system thinks Evansville is the 41st-best team in the land right now. It’s true the Aces don’t have a top 50 win whether you consider home court or not, and you might propose that Evansville is overrated because of that. But unless you have knowledge that the system tends to overrate teams that have played a weak schedule, then you don’t have a basis for this statement.

Great find!

My interpretation of his take - Evansville is a good team, even if that is not reflected in the flawed RPI ratings. I agree completely. His efficiency ratings show UE has been beating up on weak teams by more than they were expected to beat them up.

The problem is that the RPI has historically been a big part of the selection committee analysis. Their RPI killing non-conference schedule will be extremely difficult to overcome if they don't win in St. Louis. It's the same thing as trying to convince your banker that your are credit-worthy for loan, despite having a low FICO score.

The next 10 days (@ISUb, @SIU, vs. WSU) will go a long way to determining if they are dance worthy or not.

Doesn't matter, in my opinion.Teams that want to build an at-large resume must at least TRY to build an at-large worthy schedule. This is the kind of crap I get pissed at P5 schools about. Teams like Pitt have a non-con SOS in the 300s with no road games, go .500 in league play and then expect to make the tournament, every year.

Sometimes a schedule doesn't work out like you hope. I have zero sympathy when a program doesn't even TRY, or worse, deliberately tries to build a bad schedule.

Agree completely. You can't schedule 4 SWAC/MEAC teams and say you are legitimately trying to get an at-large.
