Wichita State at Creighton gameday thread

Postby MVCfans » January 12th, 2011, 7:30 am

I am going to lock a couple of the other active threads that have devolved into WSU vs CU pissing matches. Please use this thread to discuss the game tonight.

I know it can be difficult in a game like this to keep emotions in check, but our goal with the formation of this board was to allow for dialogue and discussion between fans without the rancor of Valley Talk. While we acknowledge that good natured jawing and ribbing is expected and acceptable, we ask that you please avoid personal insults and belittling other posters, players, fans, coaches and programs.

Enjoy the games tonight.

Based on CU's offensive production this year, IMO the magic number is 62. Hold WSU under 62, CU wins. Allow WSU to score 70, CU loses, anywhere from 62 to 70 is a toss-up. Unfortunately, I don't see us holding WSU under 70. WSU is just too balanced for CU to stop. But the house should be packed and the beer will be good. Looking forward to watching future NBA MVP Orukpe.

I hope the subzero temps don't keep people away from Qwest as this should be a fun game. I don't think CU has the horses to keep up with WSU this year, but if the Jays can hit a couple of 3 pointers early, there is a chance. Korver's last two games have netted career high points game in succession so it's nice to see him start to find a groove and hopefully that continues tonight.

Well, hopefully this is a good one.

I wasn't around for the last few games, so don't have anything other than articles and comments to go by. It looked like MSU beat WSU due to limiting transition offense, frustrating Murry into some bad decisions, and a poor shooting night by WSU.

WSU lost to MSU by 3 and we lost to them by 12.

I think this is an uphill climb for the Jays tonight. Our strength (on the inside) is going up against a strong point for WSU. I know we will try to control tempo and slow things down, but I have a feeling WSU perimeter players are going to pressure AY and our guards. I can see that forcing some TOs and easy buckets. We are very deliberate trying to get the ball inside, so it can be easy to frustrate us on offense for long stretches. If you can get Gregory in foul trouble that will really change the gameplan.

On the plus side both Korver and Doug have started to be a little better from behind the arc. I think we will need them or someline like Ashford or Manigat to have a big shooting night. AY has been really good for us this year, although he seemed to have some breakdowns and fatigue in recent games. If he can limit TOs and shoot well that will be huge. We will need WSU to have another subpar shooting night.

I would love for the Jays to grind one out here, but I see something like 61-53 Shockers. It could be worse if we can't control tempo. I know WSU is fired up after losing. I'm hoping the Jays are ready.

Should be a great game. If AY can pull off a good game, limit TO and hit a few outside shots along with Korver and have GE stay out of foul trouble, I think we can do it. Also avoid a 2nd half like we had against MSU would be really helpful.

No pizza to go with your beer?

If it's close the jays win as Shocks doubts grow.
If WSU wins, it won't be close.

Actually, I see it as an uphill climb for WSU:

1) Not proven yet on the road, plus have been slow to start on the road.
2) Just lost to MSU in an important game for us to win, especially at home. WSU was totally ineffective at getting the ball into the post players the first half of the game.
3) WSU has not won in Omaha for nearly 20 years.
4) GE is starting now, which means probably a better start to the game for Creighton. At 6'9", 270 lbs, he is going to be a problem for our post players to handle, plus Lawson.

Too much Gregory, too little history on the side of WSU for this one.

Creighton by 10.
