Looks like SIU had the second most tickets sold. The other 8 schools should be embarrassed.

Nope looks like SIU should be embarrassed as well. Actually you add up the five schools behind WSU and they are still short what WSU sold.

Bradley – 225
Drake – 225
Evansville – 269
Illinois State – 475
Indiana State – 250
Loyola – 225
Missouri State – 225
UNI – 600
Southern Illinois – 350
Wichita State – 1,973

If that's the case, SIU should be embarrassed ever since Jamaal Tatum graduated because I never see a whole lot of Southern fans at the tourney. Also, SIU has the closest drive so it would make sense the year they have a decent team that they have higher sales.

They aren't going to have high presales I believe as their alumni and students are close enough they don't have to make it a weekend to go. UNI and WSU are far enough away that if you go you have to make it a weekend or you are on the road too long.

That's an awful lot of Shocker fans to migrate to STL just to watch a "meaningless tourney where the winner is based off who is hot that weekend."

I agree. I've been going since '03 & I've never bought the pre-sale tickets because I know I can easily just pick some up before the game.

Shocker fans travel well, no matter what the event. They come to watch WSU, not anybody else.

The result is meaningless to WSU because they don't need it to get in. Unlike Illinois State for example, where it's the season for them and the most important weekend of the year.

Instead of mocking them, you should be thrilled about them showing up. If WSU ever leaves, you're gonna be playing your games at the Washington University gymnasium.

This is very true, there was a large amount of Purple and Red on Sunday last year where all of the Yellow used to be on Friday and Saturday.

But you did notice a nice chunk of yellow a couple weeks later on tv in Omaha, correct?

I'm certainly not denying they travel well, everyone knows that (at least recently, I'm too young to remember how well they traveled Pre-Turgeon). Just pointing out that after they lost, there was almost no yellow that stayed to watch UNI-ISU.

Agreed, Shox fans travel well. However, even without them playing in the finals last year, the attendance for that game was very solid - 13,552 in attendance for ISUr vs UNI.

Redbird fans are rather fair-weathered, but will travel down if they make the finals each year given the proximity (2.5 hours). I believe the same to be true for MSU, SIU and Bradley. Unfortunately, not many are willing to do the full weekend trip with hotels and all-session tix that reflect those numbers above.

Here is the article about Arch Madness and the attendance remaining strong, despite the loss of Creighton OR when WSU loses before the finals...
