Looks like SIU had the second most tickets sold. The other 8 schools should be embarrassed.

Nope looks like SIU should be embarrassed as well. Actually you add up the five schools behind WSU and they are still short what WSU sold.

Bradley – 225
Drake – 225
Evansville – 269
Illinois State – 475
Indiana State – 250
Loyola – 225
Missouri State – 225
UNI – 600
Southern Illinois – 350
Wichita State – 1,973

Sounds oddly familiar although in our case you could add all 9 schools and it wouldn't add up. Creighton was on our way out the door and I would bet WSU isn't far behind.

2013 tickets sold-

Bradley — 150
Creighton — 4,038
Drake — 150
Evansville — 200
Illinois State — 400
Indiana State — 150
Missouri State — 150
Northern Iowa — 410
Southern Illinois — 300
Wichita State — 1,181

As for the comment for Pre-Turgeon, it was a much smaller section of fans of Shocker faithful. Pre-Turgeon it was SIU with a HUGE following when they were good, ditto for Southwest Missouri State (loved their band and their funny signs), Bradley, etc.

In late 90's ISUr always had a huge following....

The trend here is, if your team is really really good and you expect to make the finals - more all-session tix will be purchased from that fanbase upfront given your expectations to watch your favorite team play 3 full games (not 1 or 2). Common sense.

Redbird fans are rather fair-weathered, but will travel down if they make the finals each year given the proximity (2.5 hours). I believe the same to be true for MSU, SIU and Bradley. Unfortunately, not many are willing to do the full weekend trip with hotels and all-session tix that reflect those numbers above.

Here is the article about Arch Madness and the attendance remaining strong, despite the loss of Creighton OR when WSU loses before the finals...

The 13,552 was paid attendance, which included legions of WSU fans that didn't show. There wasn't 13,000 in the building that day, maybe not even 10,000.

As to your second paragraph, that's the exact reason why the Valley and St.Louis needs WSU. They spend money. And they stay the full weekend.

As to your pre-Turgeon remarks, nobody attended the Valley tournament. You had large legions of certain close fanbases but the overall attendance wasn't near as high as it has been since. WSU had subpar teams from 2007-2009 and still beat out 8 other schools in ticket sales. So with WSU, no it's not just about having an awesome season. The culture had already changed by then.

I loved, loved, loved Arch Madness. The Big East tournament is bigger and grander but STL was like a family reunion. Wichita St fans have picked up some of the impact but like someone said earlier, Creighton (and WSU) fans came and stayed and spent money. Fans of many other schools do not. There was an article by Sean Keeler describing the impact on downtown STL after CU left that is worth reviewing.

He used to see blue; now, he's feeling it. It's Arch Madness Weekend, and Jon Sandretti is staring at row after row of empty tables, a palette of lonely chairs and unloved coasters. He's talking about closing early, instead of trying to figure out a polite way to move the Big Blue Party Bus somewhere else.

"Oh, it's been a huge difference," said Sandretti, assistant outlets manager at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis, Creighton's old headquarters at Arch Madness. "We're taking quite a hit this year on this tournament because they're not here."

The Bluejays used to own this town, this event, for a weekend. For the last 15 years -- longer, really -- you couldn't throw one of those cute little miniature Missouri Valley Conference basketballs without hitting a Creighton fan square in the noggin.

The Jays owned the turnstiles too; of the five best single-game attendance totals for the MVC tourney championship game since '91, Creighton was involved in four of them, including the top 3. Of the five best-attended semifinal sessions over that same span, the Jays were a part of four.

"We're going to draw -- assuming our good teams continue to win," Elgin told FOXSportsKansasCity.com before the start of Arch Madness. "I think we're going to have, if not record ticket sales, we're going to have ticket sales that exceed last year's."

Which they very well might. The eye test didn't show that Friday, mind you. While contenders such as Wichita and Indiana State -- fans of the Sycamores, the tourney's No. 2 seed, snapped up about 1,200 tickets, roughly twice their usual allotment -- were well-represented throughout the day, there were swaths of empty seats where Jays fans used to reside.

"(Jays fans) filled a lot of hotel rooms, for sure," Elgin said. "But I think the numbers are going to be somewhat comparable (at the end)."

Where do you see it say "paid attendance"?? The article says 13,552 ON HAND. Here is the direct quote - "A total of 13,552 were on hand, and the crowd showed well". Show me true evidence that was PAID and not actual tix through the turnstyles...this article says on hand.

Not sure they stayed the full weekend unless they just didn't attend Sunday's game. The fans in yellow and black were non-existent on Sunday during the game. But, yes they pre-pay for all-session under the assumption they are going to the finals.

As to your statement that nobody attended before 2009...here is an article for 2006:

I also attended a sold out SIU vs Creighton final around 2007 - anybody remember that? The league and attendance was very good in early to mid 2000s....get your facts straight please

I specifically said pre-Turgeon, you ignoramous.

If you didn't get riled up so easily and felt the need to pounce on everything that comes off my keyboard, you'd probably do a better job at reading, instead of always getting egg on your face.

But he literally took word for word what some blogger said on the internet. I just don't think your observation is qualified enough.

Jeez man. Relax. You are a complete ass.

I was trying to have a convo. My points were two fold.

1. Just taking what the article stated "On hand". You don't have supporting evidence for under 13K even if you are right.

2. Pre-Turgeon there was a large attendance base from SIU specifically including a sold out 2007 final

You apparently don't check your facts. You might wanna go check out when Turgeon was hired and then come back to the table.
