My biggest takeaway from this is that I'm surprised it hasn't happened prior to now. That's not a knock on the talent at Wichita but to go 47-3 in the last 50 regular season Valley games is very impressive. It's surprising that somewhere along the way they didn't run into a buzzsaw offensively or struggle mightily themselves and lose the game. Some of that is on the struggles of the league over the last 4-5 seasons, outside of last year being a one bid league for a little while now but it also speaks volumes to how good Wichita has been. I thought they were in real trouble when it was 42-27, but then when they went on their run and cut it to 6, I was sure that they would pull away. Credit UNI for hanging on.
I get some of the WSU negativity due to the success they've had as well as a personality or two on here. I think Wichita State would firmly be in the tournament today, but there is still a month of resume to be written. A few years back big bad never leave the state Syracuse went from just inside the bubble to a 5 seed by winning the Big East tournament. A lot can and will change and this season has shown that nobody is immune to an upset as it seems that the top teams in the country are so very close that nobody has separated themselves. I still believe nobody will want to see Wichita State in their region in a little over 4 weeks.
It is a conference wide thing and my Purple Aces might have been the worst offenders this season of a team that didn't schedule up enough vs expectations. It's not just scheduling it's winning those games as well. The teams I'd love to see, some of the old MCC rivalries like Xavier, Dayton, and especially Butler won't touch us. The other power 5 in state schools don't seem to want to play either. It's an art and it's something that due to Evansville needing more home than away games, often limits what they can do however the multiple MEAC/SWAC games don't do anything but hurt the overall product of not just Evansville but the league, even if they might win their respective league.
It's conference play, stuff happens and the familiarity brings out the best/worst in both sides.
I think is one of the most carefully thought-out, sensible, and accurate posts of not only the night, week, or month, but perhaps the year. Spot on on all accounts. It brings me back to my whole theme on "perspective".
Thank you purpleandorange for sanity in a completely mindless forum. I hope the Aces right the ship and make a late push.
