Fred VanVleet does whatever he has to do from game to game to get the win. He's not a stat guy in terms of always scoring the most points (like Balentine, Beane, etc.) but he does consistenly put up a good line whether it be points, assists, steals, rebounds, etc. It varies from game to game. What he does do is control the game. I don't think you can say that about many guys in this league. Mock is a great post man but he can't dictate a game like Fred VanVleet. To just look at stats and try to say someone deserves first team over Fred has no idea what it takes to be called "All Valley" or "Player of the Year".

I think it should be Fred. I do not think it should be Fred because his team finished in 1st. It should be Fred because he is the best player which says a lot when you look at what Mock did.

I think all of this is very reasonable, and I think everyone is surprised and impressed with how Barry brought along SIU this season. Marshall for the 3-peat or Barry as previously mentioned would be a logical.

I agree except coin flip.

I would vote for VV, but I am not voting. Nevertheless, it is close.

He gets his points and other stats, but they really don't come as part of the system but as other. I actually think he would fare better in a UNI or WSU system as his skill-set would be more utilized. Playing time might be the only differential-for UNI he would most certainly have played more and been used more, for WSU, probably not as much but to a maximum effectiveness.

Mock in Jake's system is everything Tuttle was, minimum, inside. He wouldn't have Tut's range but he'd play 28 MPG and have the entire offense run through him, like Tut did.

Imagine him getting 2 or 3 touches per possession rather than a touch every other or third possession.

Some of you are acting like two people from the conference step into a room and decide to settle scores or make a crude statement against someone or some program by proclaiming someone as POTY. If it's anything like last year, there are 47 votes on a panel of coaches, SIDs and media. Also, no one can vote for their own player, so if Van Vleet doesn't get the unanimous vote some feel he should have, it doesn't mean that he's being insulted by someone working with the league-- it's probably that the Wichita State SID can't vote for him.

Last year, people here seemed to have enough sense to guess that Baker and Van Vleet would get some votes cancelling each other out. I think that can still happen this year, considering Van Vleet missed games and Baker had higher ppg numbers.

I certainly don't think Fred gets it unanimously. I believe Fred will win, but Mock will get enough votes to make it interesting.
