I just noticed something that might be a little worrisome for the league. There is only 1 non senior on the 1st or 2nd team.

When the league was pretty down this year, that does not bode well for the future. Even though there are talented players they do need to step their game up quite a bit.

....and the league wasn't very good to begin with.

Next year must look something like this in the top 4 preseason (given no transfers, etc)

ISUr -Return 4 starters including McIntosh, Hawkins and Lee (need to add depth)
WSU - Lost FVV and Baker, but they are recruiting well above everyone else
Missouri St. - Youth Movement + Dequon Miller (if they all stay)
UNI - lose 3 starters, but return good players and add a few good ones

Everybody else might struggle mightily.

For those who believe that all conference type honors are based primarily on a team's results/performance, I have exhibit B for an honor outside of POY...

TWO Indy St. players on a team that quit and finished 8-10 were put on the 2nd team all conference. Ditto for Montel James at Loyola.

These are individual stat based honors with slight recognition to a team's finish in the standings. FVV happened to be POY on a team that was great and dominated the league, however those are all individual awards that can be won by any player who has an outstanding individual year statistically.

Exactly. And FVV was very deserving of the award due to the individual season he had this year.

Back in 1996-97 UNI finished the season 16-12. They were 4th in the league, but Jason Daisy won the POY. I think there are probably other ones even more recent where a player was not on a top team, but was the POY. I think that gets lost that they don't have to be on the best team, but it is much easier when you are on the best team. No doubt FVV deserved it this year for his individual performance, and not because WSU won the league by 4 games.

I would like to tag a few WSU posters to this....especially MVCFan who has disappeared since his "logic" has become very nonsensical.

Agreed about the winner not always coming from the 1st place team... and it shouldn't.

I'm happy for FVV that he won it. He had a heck of a year. Don't hate the guy at all (as others might think), I just thought that Mock had such a dominating statistical season in several categories, often beating the next player by a wide margin in those categories, that he deserved the award this year.

But I get it, and FVV is very deserving (understatement of the year I know). If this happened to be FVV's junior year and he had another in the Valley, maybe Mock wins. But being his last year, playing for a team that had as much success as Wichita has had in the past few years... that's going to garner some attention/votes.

Van Vleet didn't win because of what he did this season. He won because of what he has done on the court for the last four seasons.
