As crappy as the MSU schedule is, I hate to say it, but I understand Lusk's rationale. With 9 players in their 1st or second year in the program, he knows he has talent, but he can't afford a so-so record heading into conference with his job on the line. He's taking the approach we've seen here before, hope to bank a lot of wins early, maybe build some confidence and momentum heading into MVC play, and then hope to be decent enough at the end to have bought another year. Then with a veteran and talented team returning the following year, hope to cash in more significantly. Worked for Barry at SIU last year.
Lusk's job is on the line and he knows it; the problem is he has had the tendency to play to his competitions level when we've played what should have been easy wins. You lose a couple of those games this year and you've bought a ticket out. This should be a 20+ win schedule and the talent level is significant enough for the Bears to be a top 3rd MVC finish. Anything less will probably not be enough. My fear is that we will be right on those cut off numbers plus/minus 1-2 and then what the hell does our administration do ?? I either want a great year or a bad one and lets resolve this.
