It is time to end the Ray Giacoletti era at Drake, and time to clean house.

It is hard to imagine Drake winning the Valley ten years ago.

Go Valley!

Drake fans weren't exactly enthusiastic with the hiring of Giacoletti, but this is far worse than any of us could have imagined. The Mark Phelps era is looking real good right now....and Drake fans wanted to run Phelps out of town after his first game.

Honest question, and my theory that Drake will never be good and isn't a good historical program either isn't a secret but...

Is it actually possible to win at Drake? I won't pull the numbers, but outside of 08 and a few years in the 50s and 60s the program has been bad, if not "god awful" for the better part of the last 5 or 6 decades.

Consistently? In D1? I would say those chances directly correlate with Drake basketball's biggest fan winning the powerball.

Power to the Drake fans that are left. You guys are definitely great fans.

Is it possible? Sure. Is it likely? No

The first thing is to hire an athletic director who understands basketball.

Until about 20 years ago, Drake's athletic director was always a track and field guy (because of the Drake Relays). Then, the school finally made a separate position for the head honcho of the Drake Relays. They hired an AD with a basketball background....and he hired Tom Davis with the understanding that his son Keno would take over. That worked out pretty well.

But, that AD left when Tom Davis was still coach, and a new AD was brought in who had no basketball experience. Two terrible hires later, here we are.

Drake needs to make a Jim Schaus-like hire. He's the guy who hired Turgeon, Marshall and Chris Lamb (volleyball), and spearheaded the Roundhouse renovations.
