Also, I was emailing yesterday with the NEW Chairman of the NCAA Selection Committee this year, Mark Hollis from Michigan St. A change from last year is good news!
Within the emails back and forth was this...
" There are a number of factors that come into play in determining the 36 best teams for at-large. In addition to observation (live, television & recorded), the Committee has access to records, data, metrics and various points of difference. These are all debated and ultimately voted upon by the Committee.
The Committee is currently comprised for the athletic directors from Northeastern, Stanford, Creighton, Duke, UNC-Asheville, Kentucky, BYU, Ohio, New Mexico and myself. We strive to get it right and it comes with season-long work and dedication – on a volunteer basis."
Looks like they do use all metrics, even if the TV people mainly show RPI. However, that doesn't mean they won't choose the metrics they want to select for inclusion of the teams they want in.
