Umm. No. I mean, just watching the teams play says 'no'. And so does ISU beating UNI without that much trouble, sans McIntosh.
This .. UNI is the best of the bottom of the league. They aren't close to being as good as ISU, let alone WSU. WSU is peaking right now. ISU is battling out wins (and still blowing some out) without one of their best players. We are having a discussion about a team that is squeaking out wins against 150+ competition. Several of them were gifted and very few were more than a couple of possession games. As said earlier by someone else. They are NOT last years UNI. Last year's UNI had wins over REALLY good competition. UNI hasn't proven they can beat anyone better than about 130 in the RPI.
Yeah. UNI isn't last year's UNI.
1. Wes Washpun was a truly unique player. Offensively, he could score by himself one-on two. He nearly tied for the year in blocked shots, many which were against bigs around the rim. We do not have a PG who can do that on his best day.
2. Matt Bohannon, Wyatt Lohaus, Jeremy Morgan, Paul Jesperson, etc. were legitimate 3-point threats. Paul took and made a lot from 4 feet beyond the arc. The 3-point shooting spread the floor for Wes to drive.
To win in St. Louis, this year's UNI will need to find another level of defense beyond last year's team.
AND we'll need to start hitting from 3. AND Jeremy, Juwan, and Klint will need to have their best drive-score games. Will be tough. As a UNI fan, I'm hopeful, but bracing for disappointment.
