Two words- transition year. I also can't understate how the losses of Ethan Wragge and Casey Harriman have affected this team. We'll be okay.

Even if McDermott gets his players to players to play AT their ability level rather than below, the Jays should expect to be in the top 3 in the league every year. Hell, even this year if you look at talent level alone, Jays should be in the top 3 in the league with McDermott, Echenique, Lawson, and Young. Not sure what has happened the past couple years, but as long as McDermott doesn't screw things up, with our facilities we should be able to recruit top 3 talent in the league year in and year out. Of course, everyone wants to claim that if you are shooting for top 3 in the Valley, you aren't setting your goals high enough, but I don't think at this point that any program in our league shouldn't be happy with top 3 finishes every year. About 5 years ago, there were alot of CU fans (and probably SIU fans as well) that would have ripped someone for setting their goal as a top 3 finish every year in the league, but after what has happened at SIU, and what we at CU are trending towards, I think everyone can appreciate how difficult it is to stay in the top 3 of our league every year.

No need to take your frustrations out on me. I'm not the one who said "no way the Jays blow this one." I'm not the only one who brought up your post.

Take your lumps and move on.

I'm with you on this. I'm not sure who everyone else returns, but I am confident that the 2011-12 Jays will contend for the MVC title. Maybe little Mac could be a 3 time POY?

I think all Jays fans understand that this team could have been a Thursday night team without McDermott. Frankly, I believe Altman knew he had a Thursday night caliber team coming back when he bailed.

Anyone who thinks the Jays have top 3 talent is not paying attention. Lawson has never been such a factor as to earn the presesaon POY designation. That was laziness by the voters and lack of any clear cut favorite to start the year. Korver, Ashford and Runnels are very average D1 talent at best. Add onto that the fact that Ashford is lazy, Korver has little lateral quickness and Runnels is a true Tweener (good post skills for a league where 6'6" would make a good post player, such as JUCO or DII/DIII level, but not the speed or shooting ability to play on the perimeter at this level and not the size to play post). Throw in the facts that the only outside shooting threat returning from last year (Wragge) has been laid out by foot problems, and that the upper classmen have to learn a whole new system offensively and defensively and anyone who expected much more than we got was kidding himself.

I was hoping for a third or fourth place finish and 20 wins, but any remotely objective fan knew this year would have its ups and downs. Although they will probably compete in each game the rest of the way out, this is a transitional year. If any of the incoming freshman and/or current redshirts are better than Ashford/Korver/Runnels (and that should not be too hard to do), then CU will be a much better team next year - particularly with another year and offseason.
