I think this will have the major conferences doing a deep dive for several years and then major realignment around 2025 when UT and OU id they expect to join the SEC although I think it will be sooner. Until then I expect the Big XII to go big and try to merge with someone or add a bunch: Houston, Cincinnati, BYU, Memphis, Colorado State, Boise State, and UCF among others to consider.

Being reported that Big 12 will have their TV deals reduced by at least 50% when Oklahoma and Texas exit. No school being added would help even fractionally which means the 8 remaining schools are almost required to try and get a different P5 league to add them or they would have massive budget reductions coming soon.

Iowa State has already spent every dime they had coming. I have no idea how they function if they can't get into a Power League. The state is going to be on the hook for like $100M.

The irony is that Iowa State fans constantly bitch about UNI Athletics taking $4M out of the general fund annually. Really sucks when the shoe is on the other foot, huh?

All I know is that Baylor, TCU and K-State are totally fucked. Texas Tech is mostly fucked. Oklahoma State is probably fucked. Iowa State joins the Baylor, TCU and K-State group if the Big Ten won't take them. Basketball is going to save Kansas somehow.

Either the rest of the B12 band together and backfill or the B10/SEC/ACC/P12 pick off the other top ones and ISU/KSU/OSU might be forced into the AAC or something. The basketball-only conferences like the Valley/BE/A10 seem unlikely to be impacted but it's possible if UConn leaves the BE or the AAC needs replacements. It looks like the backfill scenario may be more likely.

I think UConn would drop football altogether before they left The Big East.

I'm not even sure who the AAC would backfill with. You'd be down to looking at Western Kentucky, Marshall, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech and FIU/FAU. It gets real ugly, real quick.

The folks who think that the Big Ten is going to add Iowa St or Kansas are delusional. The Big Ten is a clear #2 in the pecking order of leagues and would pluck away an ACC team before adding far less desirable schools in small markets. I'm sure the Big Ten regrets adding Rutgers and Maryland when they did for cable sets, which is no longer a consideration in why a school gets an invite. Boy the Big ten screwed that up big time and I'm sure they will be very cautious with their next addition.

I also see no reason at all why any of the current Big 12 schools would want to go the AAC. If they want, they could add the best of the AAC without so much as a phone call.

The problem is that ESPN isn't going to let anybody go to the Big Ten (FOX).

This whole thing is a lot easier to comprehend if you think of it as ESPN vs FOX than any individual league.

We're headed for the ESPN super league (SEC & ACC) vs the FOX super league (Big Ten & PAC12 (lol)) with the only crossover between the two happening in the playoff/bowl games. The Big 12 got caught with their pants down and it's going to cost the remaining 8 their seat at the table. None of the other 8 brought anything to that league other than making scheduling easier for Texas and OU.

I would imagine eventually it ends up as a 48 team super league. Best of each conference. There is no way schools like Vanderbilt, Rutgers, Wake Forest, and Northwestern are moving to the new league. They're just safe for now by affiliation.

Kansas basketball brings a lot to the table. I think they end up in the Big Ten at some point.

I mean, Baylor just won the NCAA tournament. I realize money drives college sports, but if that's not "bringing anything" to the league, then all of us are wasting our time following this stuff.
