Tuesday's Games

Postby PocketAces » February 21st, 2011, 4:57 pm

Opening lines given. Home team in CAPS.

NORTHERN IOWA (-5) vs. Indiana State

Both teams coming off tough home BB losses. They Sycamores are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 conference games. They are 6-2 ATS in conference road games. They are 6-3 ATS as conference underdogs. The Panthers are only 3-5 ATS in conference home games, and only 4-9 ATS as a conference favorite. They are also 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games. This is tough, but the numbers and trends say you need to play Indiana State and the points.
PREDICTION: Northern Iowa 66-65.

ILLINOIS STATE (-3) vs. Bradley

The Redbirds have lost their last 6 games. They are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 conference games. They are only 2-6 ATS in home games and are only 3-9-1 ATS this year as a favorite (1-3 ATS as conference fav). Bradley is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games. The Braves are 4-4 ATS in conference road games and are 5-8 ATS as a conference underdog, but are 3-1 ATS in their last 4 in that role. Bradley also has revenge for an earlier loss to the Redbirds in this conference rivalry. Given numbers of the last 5 games and the revenge factor we need to play Bradley. PREDICTION: Bradley 70-69.

The battle for last place between Illinois State and Bradley tonight! I can't wait! On our pre-season predictions in August on Bluejay Banter I said "Illinois State could very well finish in last place" and I just got blasted by my colleague and by people on redbirdfan.net about my lack of MVC knowledge and for supposedley not knowing anything about Illinois State. Yet if Bradley wouldn't have lost Maniscalco and Taylor Brown Illinois State would for sure be in last place and they still might be. In fact one poster called me an idiot because I picked Evansville to finish ahead of Illinois State. Its funny how we all over-rate our own teams. Hell I picked Creighton to finish 3rd. I picked Ill State to finish 9th in our pre-season predictions however. So I'm not sure who I'm rooting for in this game.

.....and what if ISU shot from the perimeter better than las in the MVC. Maybe some more games won.

I think we can all play that game with our teams, but good call on the prediction. You guessed right. I didn't think we would be at the top, but I certainly didn't think we would be at the bottom this year.

note: we were told that our squad had excellent perimeter shooting this year.

Dead last in the MVC in that category.

I have no idea what BU team will show up. If it's the one that's shown up most of February, BU should win. If it's the one that played UNI last Tuesday, they'll lose. I think Jimmy's fate is already sealed, but it's his last stand, so I'll take BU 61-60.

Will that be the score before or after Jimmy's timely technical with 2min. to go? :duel:

BU will be up 58-51. Jimmy will get a T for coughing after a foul, ISU will make both FTs and get a layup, bringing it to 58-55 with 1:15 to play. BU will run the weave for 30 seconds, Warren will take a fall-away 3 and miss, and ISU will run down and nail a 3 (Rubin), tying the game at 58 with 30 seconds left. BU will run it down, Warren will make a prayer 3 with a couple seconds left, and BU will foul on the inbounds to ensure no shot to tie is taken. Rubin makes the first, tries to miss the 2nd on purpose but banks it in. BU inbounds, and the horn sounds - 61-60 Braves - Jimmy avoids BU history and sole possession of last place. Hoo-ray.
