Summer workouts have begun for Illinois State. Everyone has made it to campus except Liam McChesney, who is playing for the U23 Canadian National Team in the upcoming 2022 GLOBL JAM Fives tournament in Toronto. Round Robin prelims start today with Canada facing off against Brazil.

Ranking the incoming recruiting classes. I was surprised by some of them.

Well, if Phyfe is back to full health he’s very wrong on UNI being last place.

If Phyfe isn’t back, uhm… I still don’t see UNI as last. So I’m scratching my head on that one.

He didn't pick UNI to finish last. He ranked their recruiting class last in the MVC.

Phyfe is not a recruit.

This recruiting strength story leaves with that dry-newspaper-in-the-mouth feeling. It doesn't seem like it comes with much depth or detail. But if you need to have something to write about, I suppose that's a good enough reason. I think I'd just skip the rankings part of this, since not a single reader has a good grasp of how it was conceived.

Yes.

It is something to write in July. That's it.

I imagine it was conceived by Father Harry looking at the rosters and saying these guys got more good guys than those guys. That may be too complicated for some, but it seems pretty straight forward from a guy who has been covering the Valley for years, writes professionally and is a frequent guest on various shows/ pod casts. Polls/rankings are always subjective , even when they use systems for assigning points etc, so it comes down to your confidence in the writers background, research, and understanding of what he's ranking. Preseason polls and rankings exist because people like to talk and argue about that stuff. I'm sure there are other rankings/ articles about MVC recruiting that might reflect a bit differently ; it's all just gist for the summer discussions.

This is an acceptable reply from you and clarifies the matter a little. Sadly I wish the author of the story had done that and saved me the trouble of wondering how he came up with these rankings. If the end of this is that we have nothing else to discuss, I guess that's as good a reason as any to publish an unenlightening roundup of Valley recruits.

I feel blessed I had an "acceptable" reply and I'm sure Father Harry is sorry his article wasn't up to your expectations. What the hell was he thinking.
