Even if the afternoon session miraculously ended on time at 5:30 (it never does), that would only leave 55 minutes between sessions. Venues typically need 90 minutes to clear and reset. There’s a nonzero chance the afternoon session is still playing when the night session (Drake’s game) is supposed to tip. That will cause havoc for people attending Albany.

All this to say, no way Drake actually tips at 6:25.

There's a site that gets screwed like that every year. Happened the first time Des Moines had the tournament. They don't hold the games because TV rules. We didn't get into the building between sessions until after the third game had already started and missed like the first 8 minutes.

Totally unfair to the fans and teams.

Yeah, especially with the narrow, congested concourses at Des Moines. I remember the bottlenecks from when Bradley played there in 2019.

Worst building ever built but I won't bore you with the Iowa politics that caused it to be what it is.

Luckily, the Des Moines area absolutely embraces NCAA events and knocks them out of the park. Absolute travesty that wrestling hasn't been back for the national tournament.

I’ll be “rooting” for the Bulldogs against Miami and Indiana. But if you play Iowa I will be wholeheartedly rooting for the Bulldogs.

Although the chances of Fran getting to the sweet sixteen is slim.
Go Panthers!!

Seeing a lot of talk on Twitter that Miami has serious injury concerns.

The Albany arena is where Roman Penn played at Siena before transferring to Drake.

Congratulations Missouri State fans: Oregon women reset the record for biggest snub in NCAA Tournament history, missing the field with a NET of 19.

Incredible that you can have a net of 19 while only having 17 wins and a 7-11 league record

I think the word you're looking for is intentional.

The net is broken if they are rated 19th with a 17-14 record. When the ranking is so biased it cares more about who you play then actually winning games, it's a problem.

Really enjoyed this article by Alyssa Hertel of the Des Moines Register. Quality journalism. https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story ... 007080007/

Walks through the history of DeVries’ hire - from losing out to Giacoletti in 2013 to losing out to Medved in 2017 to being the first interview in 2018. AD was looking for someone who wouldn’t bolt after one year and DeVries had 1 coaching job in 17 years.

Some things I didn’t know:
- DeVries turned down other HC jobs
- In DeVries’ interview with the AD, he pitched recruits he could bring with which included the NWI players
- Alums actually told the AD when the job opened up, “Can you please get us off Drake Night?” So “Drake Night” wasn’t just a message board meme - it permeated into conversations with the AD during the hiring process.
