Well, s***! That sucks.

However, from a personal POV, I graduated from Illinois state and I am a proud bird; but, I spent my first two years at Bradley. I left bradley because I joined a fraternity, drank too much and lost my scholarships (my ass was very studious at isu as a result). My love for the mvc runs very deep, beyond isu and making valpo fans feel unwelcome is beneath us. I imagine every valpo poster here was ecstatic to leave the horizon and join us. Valpo is an mvc member whether people like it or not, and they should be comfortable contributing here. I will get off my high horse and go birds!

I mean no shade to the Valpo fans. They are surely mortified. My shade is directed to the Valpo administration that sold the Valley a bill of goods. Some of that is on the league for lack of due diligence (for instance, they could add schools that already have everything in place instead of relying on promises). I was excited about the add when they joined, but have been severely disappointed since they joined. They joined in 2017 and here we are in 2024 and they are still boat anchors playing in a high school gym. Some posters have pointed to losing their coach before joining, but losing a coach shouldn’t collapse your whole program. And I get that they supposedly have a new arena in the works but that could take years, if it ever happens. It could be ten years since joining that they make good on their promise to have an MVC-level arena. Is that reasonable? I guess we’re stuck with them, and I’d love to see them thrive, but as a Valley fan I think I’m justified at feeling a little hood-winked. It’s not fair to their own fans either because they can’t be competitive in the Valley and should probably be in a low-major league to be competitive.

They can be competitive in the valley, they just replaced a good recruiter with a coach who could not recruit. The admin at Valpo was notorious for not capitalizing on the success of the late 90s to mid-2010s. Both Homer and Bryce Drew screamed at the admins to allow for money to go to athletics, but the admins viewed athletics as a "burden" rather than something to invest in. This was a major reason for Bryce leaving in the first place, coupled with being offered an SEC job. A lot of Valpo fans believed that VU could have been Gonzaga before Gonzaga if the admin had only invested in Athletics while the going was good. Powell will turn the program around.

The new arena is most likely happening, but they want to get the new nursing building underway first before construction begins. Fundraising is going to start for both projects at the end of the year given the timeline holds (which has so far been on schedule). As for design renderings, those are still under lock and key and still need to be ironed out once fundraising stops. There have been talks since the early 2000s for ARC replacements, but as mentioned, the admins wouldn't budge, even when approached by the city and contractors for a civic center near Ivy Tech. The relationship between the city and the school has been less than ideal as a result, but the new admin is making efforts to repair this relationship as they most likely want to build a civic center to share with the community. Even with the resignation of the AD, plans to build the arena and give the athletics campus a facelift are still underway.

At this point, I really think the NCAA needs to consider letting College Football become completely autonomous. Their interests simply do not align with the rest of the college athletics world. (IE Expecting the Rutgers soccer team to pick up cross-country flights to play Washington, Oregon, USC, and UCLA). Let them handle their own conferences, NIL, etc...

This booting Valpo talk is nonsense. It wasn't that many years ago people on this board were advocating that Drake be kicked out of the conference. You just kick out whichever school is on a rough streak?

Not to beat a dead horse, but it seems like the Knapp center was very similar to the ARC before rennovations...

Yes, exactly. For years it was Evansville, but now they can say at least we're not Valpo.

The MSU board is very salty for a team that got what they wanted.

As far as Valpo, I'd like to hear from VUgrad1314. I haven't seem them around anywhere in a while unfortunately.

Hope to see VUGRAD1314 back as well. That guy’s a diehard MVC fan through and through, he should be at Arch Madness every year.

And yeah, exactly what Drakey and Fetz86 said. Every sports message board goes like this: fans demand the lowest member/franchise be booted/contracted. And then when that program/franchise improves, they find a new target with the next member/franchise at their lowest. It’s total Internet Culture and Online Sports Fans Culture. In reality, there’s no actual movement or discussion behind the scenes by a league/conference to contract/boot a franchise/school.
