Because they do nothing for the conference. If the conference were looking to expand, it'd have to go after schools that would increase the prestige of the Valley or at least be capable of it.

I don't think Oakland fits that. Milwaukee you may be able to make a case for. Could they be even better with the Valley backing? We've talked about the obvious in other threads. Butler, Dayton, Xavier and SLU. SLU brings the least to the table of that group. ORU doesn't do much. Detroit intrigues me, but I'm not sure what they're doing will last. The biggest problem is that football is a factor, and most schools in our geographic area that could help, play football at the highest level and aren't coming to the Valley. I don't really see any schools in Texas that would be attractive. The Dakotas do nothing.

DePaul, Bradley, Illinois State, Southern Illinois, Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois, Northern Illinois, Loyola, UIC, SIUe and Chicago St.

-tv deal includes theU, WGN and PBSchicago (all games are to be schedule around Bernie Mac and That 70's show reruns)

The big east would never shed off DePaul in the chicagoland market if they were to become a superconference. The big east might just make them start up a football team and play home games at Soldier Field (once the bears go to field turf that is).

Butler will never join the MVC. And I don't think any of the A10 schools will either unless the Big East breaks apart and the A10 reforms itself. In that event, I think they'd look to add schools like Depaul and Creighton.

Worst idea ever. This sounds like an NAIA league where no one outside the local area would ever hear or care about.

That's why they were dream schools. There's little out there that I see of really benefiting the Valley unless the Big East breaks apart (non football schools) and us and the A10 go after the pieces and maybe each other.

I mentioned football, but the other important word is money. UNI's financial situation played out very publically this past year, but don't tell me the same conversation isn't going on behind closed doors at most public schools across the country.

Budgets are getting slashed and it's increasingly hard to make the case for huge subsidies for athletics. At some point, schools realize they are never going to be invited to one of the elite superconferences. Hopefully a more sustainable model will emerge while maintaining a level of excitement and competition that fans will still support.

All this shifting is about FBS football. If you're a basketball league, your concern is that the super conferences split off from the NCAA and form their own association.

That kills the NCAA basketball tournament, which is the lifeline for leagues without FBS football -- and a support system for several of the FBS leagues outside of the big six. If the basketball tournament goes away, you can shuffle the non-BCS leagues and teams all you want, but you still end up in the same situation...without billions in TV dollars to be had.

I'm not quite sure where people think some of the MVC teams are going to land. If they leave the MVC, where do they go? Without FBS football, no one wants you. That's just how it is.

for recruiting reasons Florida will never allow Florida state to receive an invite to join the sec. Va tech and Maryland are great possibilities to receive invites.
