Alabama A&M, Nicholls State, Texas Southern, UMKC, and Chicago State were not national powerhouses last time I checked. I have enough respect for their players and coaches not to call them "lousy." Also, they just might beat you.

The Maui Invitational, a great event, gives the Shockers a chance to make a statement early on. Do you think Connecticut, Michigan State, Kentucky, or Oklahoma would have played you in a one and one return on an equal basis situation? Nope. Their fans see WSU as a "mid-major" and may view you as a "lousy" game, too,

C'mon, basketball is basketball. Respect your opponent. Beat him on the court. Do not denigrate him behind a false name on a basketball board.

I bet WSU loses to at least one of its "gimmee opponents." Do you want that bet?

The reason you get Butler, Indiana, and UNC is because you're "lousy." Do you think it's because you're above WSU? I'm not following your reasoning stating that the reason we don't get those type of games is because we're mid-major.

No sir, wrong logic trail.

My point is "lousy" is relative. "Lousy" is in the eyes of the beholder. Earlier I stated that I spend much of my time at work defending "lousy WSU basketball" as I talk to University of Kansas and Kansas State University fans. They do not respect your school or your basketball program because they are considered to be "better than you." Just like so many posters look down their nose at Evansville because they believe that they are better than us. Last, the BCS schools you are playing at the Maui Invitational would never play you in a one on one, equal exchange because you are beneath them. We need to stop the xick measuring contests and understand that basketball is basketball and some programs are stronger than others, and that is ok.

Wrong. Try again.

We have played Butler almost every year. When they were horrible we played them, yes they were terrible for a long stretch of time. UNC, because of Zeller. He lives 45 minutes up the road. Williams likes to play once around recruits home town. Oh and BTW, how many of the people on old board said this game would never happen??? They all said UNC will buy out. Well, wrong again.

82, thanks for filling in the blanks. I knew that "location" had to be a reason for the North Carolina game, I just could not remember that it was a UNC location reason and not an Evansville location reason. Kudos to Evansville for taking the game and giving their players a chance to play this historic program.

Coaches schedule "up" and "down", depending on their program's need. You can schedule "hard" in OOC and limp into conference play with a 2-5 record or you can schedule "easy" and waltz in with a 8-0 record. Just depends on your goals.

Check out the below website if you want to see the outside view of scheduling:

AceDad,

Since you weren't around a lot last season, let me bring you up to speed.

WSU fans are upset with Evansville, because they blame the loss to Evansville last year (almost two losses BTW) for keeping them out of the MVC tourney. Note - it is not WSU's fault for playing uninspired, lackluster hoops. It is also not Marshall's fault for not having them focused or properly prepared. It is entirely Evansville's fault for having the desire to not simply roll over and play dead. No personally responsibility; just blame pointing.

DoubleJay, thanks.

I knew we beat the Shockers, but did not know that fans would blame us for beating them. I thought the goal of the game was to win. A top-tier MVC team that cannot muster up enough intensity to beat a third-tier MVC team toward the end of the year does not deserve to go to the NCAA tournament. That is why we play the games.

I did a lot of "lurking" and spent most of my time on European basketball boards, sowing seeds of hate and discontent. LMAO!

What happened to Valleytalk? Did the flamers take it over?

I think the guy who owned ValleyTalk just lost interest and didn't renew the domain name.

I'm really not understanding this blame Evansville vs blame WSU. When a team pulls off a big upset aren't the fans of the underdog the ones complaining that their team isn't getting credit? That the favorites always blame the loss on themselves? Shouldn't Evansville want WSU fans to say "you were better than us that day?" I personally blame it 100% on WSU and think the team should've been ashamed of the way they played. But isn't that the exact opposite of what Evansville fans would want me to think? Aren't you supposed to give the winning team credit? I remember after the UNI - KU game, KU fans were telling me that the only reason UNI won was because KU was unprepared and were off their game that day, I took that as an insult and insisted that UNI was a good team who deserved to win and forced KU off their game. Is this a completely different situation because UNI is actually good, while Evansville is actually bad?
