Obviously you don't count defensive rebounding a playing defense? I'm certain Doug was one of the absolute best rebounders in the conference last year, in addition to being its best scorer. Despite its struggles last year, Creighton was something like second or third in the nation in defensive rebounding and there is no reason to expect that won't be the same again this year. Lesson: the opponent better be making their shots, because they aren't getting a second chance.[/quote

Yes defensive rebounding is a part of playing defense but most people think individual man to man defense when talking about defensive prowess. Larry Bird was universally recognized as just an average defender yet he was a great defensive rebounder.

In the games I saw CU play last year I thought Doug improved quite a bit last year on the defensive end last year as opposed to his freshman year.

Doug either can't or is too lazy to play the ball, both of which are terrible reasons not to do so. Doug plays the rim. That is all. Even X played the ball, and he was one of the best rebounders ever.
Our last five are still collectively better than your starting lineup.

He plays the position asked of him. I'm still sore on him not playing for UNI but can at least respect the job he does on the court.

This is what I know about Dougie.

He sticks the ball in the hole from inside and outside.

He is a very good rebounder.

He has a great nose for the ball, positioning in the paint and cleverness in the paint.

Sometimes I swear he is boxed out and he still gets the rebound. I always ask Señora Rio, "How in the hell did he do that?"

That is what I know about Dougie.

I think that is a very fair assessment and would add that I've had the exact same discussions at games.
