Just to be clear, Jackie Carmichael rebounds like that half the time. This was far from intentional on his part. As a poster on our board stated, the refs are giving him too much credit to have the forethought to put a foot in his chest after getting that rebound. I think his first priority was to secure the basketball and second was landing and it just so happened that another player going towards the ball was on the recieving end of jackies foot. You can even see Jackie trying to pull back his foot when he realizes hes going right towards another player.

That said, I still believe something should have been called there, however, there was no call by the refs. So what gets me is how do the refs have the ability to go back and look at a "no call" after the ball re-enters play live. I know you can check at timeouts and such on 3pointers or even to upgrade a foul given, but not a no call. So whether there should have been something called or not, the pure fact that they listened to marshall and reviewed it is flat out wrong. The refs basically were inventing their own rules to the game last night and that is what upsets me the most.

I do agree that Hill should have taken care of the basketball better instead of running out of bounds with it. Had he not done that, this wouldn't be as big of an issue as it is. It is just hard to see the redbirds give a dominating effort for most of the game just to see the officials change the course with a poorly handled situation with Jackie.

So on top of reviewing a play that is not reviewable, they then let WSU pick the shooter which is also wrong. It always leaves me thinking why cant my team ever get breaks like this? How is it that WSU under Marshall always seems to win these types of games and weird situations happen. To me Marshall comes off like the type of person that will try to get away with whatever he can whenever he can and if he gets called out on it he will plead ignorance.

Wrong. If there is the possibility of a flagrant designation they can go back and look regardless of whether or not there was a call. Marshall has every right to request it, if there is no flagrant after his request he loses a timeout.

The UNI/SIU game where Jeff Early was ejected for a flagrant 2, there was no call. Jake asked for it to be reviewed. Early was tossed.

Again, the crew, more or less, got it correct.

Yea, WSU always wins games where a ref blows a goaltending call in the final 5 seconds and the ref gets reprimanded by the Valley. I heard from a supervisor of officials this morning who said that the call was well handled based on the rules.

I was going to respond to this post but then I read this line and realized all 4 paragraphs were probably just sarcasm.

@Pg_Benson: MVC disciplines three officials for giving FTs to wrong Wichita player with 40 sec left Sunday. Discipline to be handled "internally."

There won't be anything outside of, maybe, a small fine. They aren't going to alienate three very good, very experienced officials that work a ton of games in the league.

Did you just use the words "very good" and "official" in the same sentence when talking about Gerry Pollard??? Credibility just thrown completely out the window for you sir.

Now ISU can use a legitimate gripe instead of making false statements like it shouldn't have been reviewed or Jackie Chan unintentionally kicked Cotton.

Although as far as I'm concerned it was just a makeup for not calling the flipping foul in the first place. Being down 5 with 2 FTs with a 60% FT shooter and the ball isn't worse than being down 7 with 2 FTs from an 80% FT shooter and the ball.

Gerry Pollard works deep into the NCAA tournament yearly. Consistently works MVC and Big XII tournament games. He's not one of my favorites either, but he's a fantastic communicator and grades out very, very well...

Elite 8 in 2011. Big XII Championship Game in 2012. Never worked less than 2 NCAA Tournament games since 2007. NIT Final in 2006.

The Illinois State player(s) and fanbase have lost about everything I had respect for them for. I can't believe crap was actually thrown onto the floor. That's well beyond the line.

WSU players were celebrating a hard-fought, unfathomable, come-from-behind win. They were a little excited. Should they have tried to show up the obviously dangerous crowd? No. But I've seen a lot worse before.

I remember when an Illinois State player celebrated a win a few years ago at Koch while sliding all over the center court logo and made a point to do so. But when a player raises his hands in the air after a big victory, it's classless.

Just too comical.
