Actually, knowing the NIT committee, they would throw seedings out the window and rig it to have UNI at Iowa first round. That is exactly the type of thing they'd do. Either way, after that, looking at the teams in NIT range, UNI may have to travel a lot - to either coast - after that.

I did put NDSU as a 5 seed but I think I had them closer to a 7 or 8 and moved them up for travel reasons. You can joke about it if you want but a Summit team getting an at-large bid to the NIT would be a big step for a program like NDSU (or SDSU).

There is probably too much damage on the InSU resume. Even bigger problem: their next 2 games are home to Iona and Drake, which do zip for their problems. Their issues: 6 sub-100 losses and 4-8 road record. Two home games against sub-100s don't fix that problem, they make it worse. But first things first: find 3 wins to close the regular season, then you'll have a fighting chance in St Louis.

I think Wichita is home free. In reality, all they needed was a split of the two big road games, and they got them. Detroit would be an 8th top 100 win for them. That could be useful. 8-3 vs. top 100 looks much better than 7-4.

Creighton's just about there too, but if they lose both @St Mary's and Wichita, that leaves them 7-6 vs. RPI Top 100 and sliding down the stretch. St Mary's is turning into a borderline top 50 chance depending how the RPI shakes out.

I took one extra look at Northern Iowa, still too much damage. 3-9 against RPI top 100 (Denver's going to give them another one), although the 3 wins are all top 50, they're also all at home. They played 8 top 100 opponents on the road or on a neutral site and gakked all 8. Bahamas and MWC/MVC challenge provided them with 4 golden tickets and they threw them all away.

For those few to whom it interests,

Illinois St's NIT bubble probably popped finally tonight.

Kinda big win for UE if they care about playing in an EIEIO tourney, it'll still be a chore to finish at .500 for CIT eligibility. Bradley still needs to find a win somewhere for it too.

Palm's bracket out as well. WSU a 10 seed playing Minnesota and Creighton a 11 seed playing Ohio St. No mention of Indiana St.

They love placing mid-majors as an 8 or 9 seed to pretty much guarantee that they're one and done. Better to be a 10 seed.

and their should not be any mention of Indiana State. ANY hope of an at large bid died last week with losses at MSU and BU. NCAA ONLY by winning in St Louis. NIT might be a stretch. Looks like CBI or CIT is more likely for us this year, and that is only if we can win 2 of the next 3. And maybe win 1 in St. Louis.

Just watching games around the country the last few weeks, this is one of those years that you really want to be in the tournament if you are a mid-major. Watching teams like Cal, St Marys, Iowa St, etc that are probably going to be in the tournament....teams just aren't that good this year and literally everyone is beatable. There's a big opportunity to make a run this year.

And the only problem is that while some of those teams who get in (and probably wouldn't in years past) will get breaks on losses that other mid-major teams probably won't. I could see some very mediocre teams from the Power 6 get into the tourney while...I shudder to think what will happen with some of the Mid's who may be deserving
[Insert snappy comeback]
