When the realignment smoke clears

Postby Someone_Else » March 24th, 2013, 3:26 pm

I believe:
New Big East goes to 12 and stays at 12 taking STL and Richmond with two 6 team divisions. (3-4 average bids)
A10 keeps Dayton and adds George Mason and Sienna. (2-3 average bids)
MVC adds Belmont and stays at 10. (1-2 average bids)

I believe that the Mountain West (#6) will be the top bid getting non BCS conference followed by the nBE (#7), These two conferences I have listed as #6 and #7 for ease, but they could easily top BCS conferences in bids. Following those two are the Aresco conference (#8 until they eventually lose Uconn and Cin), A10 (#9), WCC (#10), and then the MVC (#11) as the last conference capable of getting multiple bids consistently.

The MVC has enough good teams with the necessary finances that we should be able to continue with bursts of success for each of the remaining schools. The only way we can make it consistently as a #8 conferences is to maintain coaches, the Achilles heal of all mid major conferences, and even then it doesn't guarantee success (see Les, Lowery).

I'd be happy with that scenario; Nashville road trips are always fun!

That wouldn't be terrible by any means. Belmont seems better to me that UIC and Oral Roberts shot us down apparently.

I don't have a link but Dave Sittler of the Tulsa newspaper tweeted something along those lines. He has pretty good ORU connections as I understand it. Obviously I'd love for him to be wrong. ORU being in our conference is something I have deeply desired for many, many years. Geographically it is great for MSU and our alums in Oklahoma.

Here's the man's twitter. https://twitter.com/DaveSittler He doesn't tweet a ton, and I found this from March 8th:

Dave Sittler‏@DaveSittler8 Mar
ORU dropping the ball on pursuing MVC membership. Denver & Belmont are reportedly top choices if Creighton bolts. Bold leader needed at ORU.

That certainly doesn't sound like ORU shot anything down to me.

Lol Casey is notorious for misinformation. The tweet basically just says his desire for ORU to pursue membership and the leadership not being proactive. Sure seems more likely than ORU "shooting down" the Valley. Can't believe anything from Casey

"Dropping the ball" =/ "shooting down"

Casey, why not Belmont and UIC...possibly along with Loyola or Detroit?

Not really a fan of UIC, Loyola, or Detroit Mercy. They aren't terrible but do little for Missouri State as far as I can tell. I think Belmont is a great add and selfishly I love it because of trips to Nashville. If I had to rank the other three in order of preference from most desired to least I'd go Loyola, UIC,... Detroit.
