All-Sports Trophy

Postby CBB_Fan » May 12th, 2013, 6:07 pm

I don't know who cares, but Wichita State has clinched the All-Sports trophy with 2nd place finishes in both men's and women's track (and baseball's clinch of second place with a win against Creighton). They'll set a new record, breaking Illinois State's record of 2.47 set in 1996-1997. At worst, they will finish with a 2.3 average, at best 2.23 depending on what happens in baseball next week.

The Shockers finished 3rd or better in 14 of the 15 sports they compete in, with the exception being the softball team, which finished 8th. This the Shockers 19th All-Sports trophy.

They must win this based on a lot of meaningless sports?

I wouldn't call the other sports meaningless, but CU is taking the following hardware to the BigEast with them:
- Men's Soccer
- Volleyball
- Men's BB
- Women's BB
- Softball
- and if a miracle happens Baseball.

Does CU get a zero for the sports it does not compete in?

Expected quote from a fan of a team that never wins it.

I'd say WSU has excelled pretty well nationally compared to other schools around the league who stop succeeding after the Valley post-season is over.

Jealousy appreciatively noted.

The Big East is Big Time.

Congratulations on winning those five sports.

See how this works? You school won something and I'm congratulating you accordingly rather than being a troll who calls sports we didn't win in "meaningless" while bragging about what we did succeed in.

As for your comment about CU getting a zero for sports it doesn't compete in ... not how it works. From the MVC's website: "the total accumulated points are divided by the number of sports in which a particular school competes." I would imagine finishing 9/10 in men's and women's cross country, 9th in men's golf, 7th in women's golf, last in women's soccer, last in men's tennis, and second to last in women's tennis would all counter Creighton's championships.

Women's basketball was shared and WSU was the 1 seed. Baseball CU can not finish higher than 2nd and possibly 4th, so yes it would take a miracle.

Only 1 MVC sport matters, Men's Basketball. WSU made every other MVC team their bitch this year with their Final Four run. It would be best if everyone held off on talking smack until they have a reason.

Sorry, but no. Some of us here actually go to women's basketball, baseball, and soccer games.
